Apps are the heart of Windows 8. The core apps are pre-installed/built-in, and they work together to make each other better.

Chat with Facebook® and Windows Live Messenger contacts, through the Messaging app.

The value here is that you can connect and chat with all of your people from one place, without having to sign in to your various accounts.

Fun Fact:The Messaging live tile will update when a new message comes through, so you’re connected to the latest.

Fun Fact:As long as your PC is online, you can access any file using SkyDrive.com. 

When you use SkyDrive, you'll never be without your documents, photos, videos, and more. The SkyDrive app and SkyDrive.com help you store and access your files across devices.

The value here is that no USB, hard drives, or cables are needed to access what you need.

Files stored in SkyDrive automatically show up on any Windows 8 PC or tablet when you sign in with your Microsoft account.

Introducing, SkyDrive®

Click on any app:

The live Calendar app combines your information from Hotmail®, Exchange®, and Google® and pulls together your multiple calendars into a single day, week, or month view. With the Calendar app pinned to the Start screen, you can see upcoming events on the live tile.

You can even choose to see upcoming appointments on the Windows lock screen, so you won’t have to unlock your PC to see what’s going on.

Fun Fact:You decide which of your calendars are shown, and you can adjust the colors to suit your preferences.

Click on any app:

Mail helps you to see all of your accounts in one place, whether it’s Hotmail®, Gmail®, or your company’s Exchange® mail.

You can pin email accounts to the Start screen. Once pinned, you can see new emails from that account on the live tile without opening the Mail app. You can even pin individual folders so that you can stay up to date.

View your contacts, status updates, and all the ways you can communicate and share with them

—all from a single location.

It is your most complete address book, pulling contacts, content, and posts from all accounts, including Hotmail®, Messenger®, Gmail®, Facebook®, Twitter®, LinkedIn®, and more.

The value here is that you can quickly see what’s new, share an update, comment, or initiate a conversation all from a single location.

The Windows Store highlights great apps and provides quick access to top picks, plus shows user ratings so you will know what’s interesting, new, and popular.

Built for speed and perfect for touch, Internet Explorer 10 delivers a fast and fluid browsing experience. Browse your favorite full version websites in full screen, along with support for both Adobe® Flash® and HTML5.

Security and privacy come standard, offering enhanced protection and in-private browsing.

The Photos app pulls your pictures together into one place.

When you use your Microsoft account, albums from Facebook®, Flickr®, and SkyDrive are available from any Windows 8 device. You can also conveniently import photos from your camera and external devices directly into the app.

The value here is that all photos are in one place, so you can easily find and share the photos you’re looking for.
