The Mainframe Skill Set – IT Analyst - Joe Clabby, Clabby Analytics

Data points abound that indicate that this mainframe skill set is being filled by:1) a new generation of mainframe skilled young people (under 30); and, 2) by enterprises growing skill sets from within.

Ensuring You Have Mainframe Skills Through 2020– Gartner Research, Mike Chuba

A key component of IBM's efforts to keep the outlook of its mainframe platform healthy has been its ongoing investment to develop the next generation of mainframe personnel. The cornerstone of this effort — IBM's Academic Initiative. IBM has continued to invest in its Academic Initiative, because the company realizes that, without this effort, staffing issues could be a major detriment to the future of mainframe sales.
