Teacher Certification for the State of Idaho

1. Why should I certify in the State of Idaho?• Reciprocal agreements between most states augment the

process of obtaining licensure from other states if licensed in Idaho

2. If I don’t plan on teaching in Idaho, what does my state require?• The graduate is responsible to research alternate states

personally for individual state requirements

3. When can I apply for my Idaho teaching certificate?• After the posting of your BYU – Idaho degree

• Three to four weeks following graduation

4. How do I apply for my teaching certificate?You have two options:

1. Go to the Field Services web page www.byui.edu/fieldservices

• Use the checklist we have provided under the Certification banner and follow the instructions listed

OR2. Go to the Idaho Department of Education’s web page:

http://www.sde.idaho.gov/site/teacher_certification/ • Independently research their site, follow their instructions and

submit your application packet

We recommend that you follow option #1.

5. What do I need to submit to the State of Idaho to become certified?

A. An official transcript from BYU-Idaho (a paper copy from the university)

B. An official transcript from any other institution that contributed towards the earning of the degree

C. An Institutional RecommendationD. An Application to the State of IdahoE. A Check for $75 to the Idaho Dept of Education

Transcripts:

List and provide ALL PERTINENT transcripts. If another institution is listed on the application (or if credits from the other institution contributed toward the obtaining of the degree), students must provide other transcripts.

BYU Idaho Transcripts are obtain through BYU-Idaho’s website Go to http://www.byui.edu/transcripts Click on “How to order my official transcript” Choose the “Former Student” link or “Current Student” link Log In The transcript must be an official paper copy ordered from BYU-Idaho.

It will have an official seal. The envelope cannot be opened before mailed to the Idaho State Dept. of Education.

IF DEGREE IS NOT YET POSTED If degree is not yet posted click on the “Student” tab then “Transcript Request”

on the left. On the request for when to send, choose “Hold for degree to be posted”

Institutional Recommendation(Form B-2): The institutional Recommendation is a form completed by BYU-

Idaho that verifies that the graduate has met all requirements from the State of Idaho, and from the university. It includes the following information: Personal information (name, personal address, social security #, etc) Educational information (endorsement and student teaching

information) Testing information (Praxis results, etc.) Completion of program verification

This form may be obtained by submitting the request from the Field Services Certification in Idaho web site Degree must be posted before requesting this form The address put in the form must be a personal or home address. The

Idaho State Department of Education address will not work.

Application for Certification from the State of Idaho (Form B-1)

A copy of this form and a detailed list of instructions is located on the Field Services web page

Print and complete the form as instructed Failure to follow the instructions as listed may cause a delay in the

processing of your application in the State Department of Education office

Certification Fee Check for $75 made out to the Idaho Department of Education

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE FOR IDAHO

Background clearance is completed before Student Teaching, and is viable for 3 years

If the application for certification is submitted before the end of the 3 year period, the applicant is not required to be fingerprinted again

If more than 3 years have passed the applicant is responsible to be printed again. Research the Idaho Department of Educations’s web page for full

details Include new printed fingerprint card in the application packet Add$40 to the certification fee, bringing the total amount to $115
