Introduction

Getting the perfect hair takes a lot more than just finding a photo you like online and

taking it to your barber or stylist. Then again, many of us know this already. How

many times have you found what you thought was the ideal haircut, and been

incredibly disappointed by what you saw in the mirror afterwards?

We’re going to bet that the answer is too many.

Well, fret not, because we’re going to present you with the solution to all your haircut

woes, and as you’re about to discover, it is actually a surprisingly simple one. In fact,

getting the perfect hairstyle all comes down to one thing – your face shape.

But before you run off to the nearest mirror to try and ascertain what yours is, you’re

going to need to know how to identify it. That’s what we’re going to teach you here.

We’ve provided a handy guide for both men and women that will help you find out

what exactly is your face’s shape. We have also included an example of the best

hairstyle for each different shape.

So, if you’re tired of struggling with your hairstyles, now is the time to learn how you

Take a measurement from one of

your eyebrow peaks to the other

side’s peak.

You need to start at the sharpest

end of one cheekbone and

measure across to the other.

Take a measurement from the under

your ear where the jaw is angled upward,

to the tip of your chin, and multiple that

by two.

Take a measurement from the

very tip of your chin to the center

of your hairline.

The first step to your ultimate hairstyle is to figure out what the shape of your face is, and

this is how you do it.

Before we start, get a tape measure; it’ll come in handy. Of course, you can do without

one, but measuring and recording each measurement will make things easier than trying

to go by sight alone.

These are the measurements you’ll need to take:

Once you’ve got all your measurements written down, it’s on to the next step. To

determine your face shape, simply take a look at the list below and pick the one that

best describes yours.

This is where the length of your face is larger than the

width between your cheekbones, while your forehead is

bigger than your jawline. You’ll also have a rounder jaw,

rather than a sharp one, if you possess this shape.

This is when all the measurements are similar to each

other, with a sharp jaw.

This is where the length of your face has a higher

measurement than the others, while the rest are similar to

each other.

Page 8: ©UltraFX10.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/UltraFX10/dldl/TheUltimate... · 2017-05-31 · ©UltraFX10.com | 4 Introduction Getting the perfect hair takes a lot more than just finding

©UltraFX10.com | 8

The length of your face and your cheekbones are similar in

regards to measurement, but are bigger than your jawline

and forehead, which are also similar in measurement to

each other. Your jaw has a softer angle and isn’t really

defined.

The length of your face is the greatest, followed by your

cheekbones, your forehead, then with your jawline having

the smallest measurement. Your chin will be pointed.

If this is your face shape, your forehead is greater than your

jawline and cheekbones, with a pointed chin.

For this, your jawline is greater than your cheekbones,

which in itself is greater than your forehead.

Once you know which shape is yours, it’s time to look at the cuts.

THE RIGHT CUT FOR YOUR FACE

If you’re a guy and you have this face shape,

you’re in luck. This is often seen as ideal by

women, as it is known as the most alpha face

shape. It is also a shape that lends itself well to

almost any hairstyle.

However, there are still a few things that you

need to keep in mind. One of them is to make

sure your hair is worn off your forehead. Also,

avoid a fringe that covers your forehead, and

you might want to shave, since a beard isn’t

really needed to fill out the face here.

You can’t go wrong with the classic short cut,

with shorter sides and slightly more length up

top. A side-swept parting goes well with this.

Page 10: ©UltraFX10.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/UltraFX10/dldl/TheUltimate... · 2017-05-31 · ©UltraFX10.com | 4 Introduction Getting the perfect hair takes a lot more than just finding

Now this is what most think of as the most

masculine of the face shapes – square jawed,

chiseled and even. And, much similar to the

oval, it lends itself nicely to quite a few

hairstyles, including both really short and really

long. Although, if you go too short you risk

looking like you’re in the army (which isn’t

necessarily a bad thing).

Classic haircuts work best if you have this kind

of face shape, such as short layers or side

partings. Feel free to have some stubble as

well, as it adds to the masculine aesthetic, and

gives texture to the face.

This is the longest shape you could have, and

requires a style that doesn’t extend its length

any further. This means that you don’t want to

take too much off the sides if you like to keep it

longer on top. With this shape, it’s all about

keeping both the sides and top proportional to

each other.

Try having your hair fall across your forehead

or across your sides as well. This stops your

face from looking too narrow. Also, keep in

mind that this face does not lend itself well to a

full beard, so keep it short or have some

stubble.

This shape has a round chin and no sharp

angles – at least none that are immediately

apparent. To offset this, you need to go for a

square type of haircut. The idea is to make it

appear as if there are angles, even if there

aren’t.

This means going with height up top, with tight

sides – like the pompadour. Basically, you

want square corners in the area that’s prone to

recede. A square, full-bodied beard is also a

good idea, as it adds sharp angles to your chin

and jawline.

If you have this face shape – with the narrow

brow and chin, and wider cheeks – you’re in

possession of one that is actually quite rare,

which means you’re going to have to be extra

careful when choosing a hairstyle.

You need to add width to your chin and

forehead with this shape, so you’ll probably

want to have a fringe for the forehead, and

grow your hair longer so that you can tuck it

behind your ears. Keep in mind that you don’t

want to overly shorten the sides – your ears

will just appear larger.

You want soft layers for your hairstyle. It’ll help

soften the rather sharp angles of your face.

Add a deep side-part, or do a sweep to the

side, and some stubble to complete the look.

Another rare face shape, the heart means that

your temples are wide, along with your hairline,

and it gradually narrows, eventually ending at a

pointed chin. For this shape, you’ll need to be

creative with your styles.

You’ll need to avoid tights cuts altogether,

unless you want your chin to look much

narrower. Mid-length sweeps are best, but you

can also go for longer. Basically, either of

these two, as long as they’re fine and

lightweight, so as to soften the forehead.

A beard is great with this shape, as it adds bulk

to your chin and jaw.

Since this is pretty much the opposite of the

heart shape, you need to make sure the

hairstyle is opposite as well. You need volume

here, longer, nose-length and fuller sides.

It’s also probably best to remain clean-shaven

with this shape, as you don’t want to add any

more volume to your already prominent

jawline.

Longer and not as wide as the oval, with a

narrow chin.

If you have this shape, your forehead is greater

than your cheekbones and jawline, while your

chin is pointed.

The length of your face is the greatest, while

cheekbones, forehead, and jawline go in

descending order, with jawline having the

Once you know which shape is yours, it’s time to look at the cuts.

The Right Cut for Your Face

If you have an oval-shaped face, you’re in luck.

This shape works with almost any cut, which

means you have a lot of choice.

Our advice would be to go extreme though –

either long locks or short curls. But really,

ladies with oval faces can pull off just about

any kind of style, so feel free to experiment.

If you have a round face, you need to avoid the

bob cut, or any cut that has a uniform length.

You need to have layers to give yourself some

definition, depth and structure. You can also do

this with some color.

The point is that you don’t want too much

uniformity if you don’t have a strong jawline.

You need the definition from the cut to add

frame to your face, and elongate it.

You can try long hair with soft textured parts as

well.

Page 18: ©UltraFX10.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/UltraFX10/dldl/TheUltimate... · 2017-05-31 · ©UltraFX10.com | 4 Introduction Getting the perfect hair takes a lot more than just finding

©UltraFX10.com | 18

The first thing to keep in mind if you have a

square-shaped face is to avoid anything that

ends at your jawline. Essentially, you need to

soften the square.

This can be done with a curtain-style fringe,

shorter in the center, and have it get longer

towards either end. Have longer hair to soften

the jawline, with texture.

If this is your face shape, you need a style that

adds volume and something interesting to your

jawline. It’s all about framing here, with layers

specifically.

Use them to emphasize what you want to

accentuate, be it your face, neck or collarbone.

Page 19: ©UltraFX10.com | 1s3.amazonaws.com/Mentis/UltraFX10/dldl/TheUltimate... · 2017-05-31 · ©UltraFX10.com | 4 Introduction Getting the perfect hair takes a lot more than just finding

©UltraFX10.com | 19

If you have a heart shape, you need to get a

cut that makes the forehead width smaller,

while increasing the width of your lower face.

Try going for a nice, long fringe that can be

swept to the side to show off the forehead.

Layers around the cheekbones are a good way

to lengthen your face as well.

One final tip is to keep the length of your hair

above your shoulders. This helps give more

width to the jaw.

Those of you ladies that have an angular,

diamond-shaped face need to try out a bob cut,

or even a straight-across.

Keep your proportions in mind though,

especially when you’re layering. In terms of

length, chin or shoulder is fine, and you can

have wispy edges as well.

Basically, you need any cut that reduces the

width of the cheekbones, and length of the

face.
