The Brats, Beer & Pretzels were flowing at the Octoberfest Party on October 10th. Thank you to Noble Rocky McWilliams and Lady Bev along with Noble Scott Shirkey and Lady Nikki. Thank you to the aides who helped also. I’m sure everyone looked great in their Lederhosen and German Costumes. We appreciate everyone coming and having a great time.

Always - THINK MEMBERSHIP !!! There are lots of things going on in November.

I write this today from a place many miles from Dodge City, Kansas. I am currently working in Xi’an, China. I am working on a major project which encompasses 18 buildings for a 1,200 bed orphanage that is going up. I am alone here and thinking about my friends & families back there in the USA & Dodge City, Kansas.

As, I sit today and think about the people in Dodge & Pratt & Wichita. Some of them during the past couple of months have had medical issues. They have been “ IN and OUT” of the hospital for this & that. Many of them are still trying to get crops planted and crops harvested. Getting up every morn-ing and working at making a go of that day and getting through it and going to bed and hoping for another day –

Where does the time go? When was the last time someone called

you and said, Thank you for being a Friend? Thanks for being in my life? Thanks for making a difference?

Here we are in October 2015. The news in the world is not very positive – people on the rampage – bombs going off –people getting hurt – People wanting to run for office and a new president in 2016. Most of this does not effect us – nor does it matter…. But –

Thanking someone for being there – now that does –

Yes, the Dodge City Shrine Club held their October 2015 meeting on the 14th at Central Station Bar and Grill, in Dodge City. NO, I was not there – sorry about that – too many miles away – I was told that it was a nice turnout – Some old friends & new friends got together and shared a meal and shared some time together --- Yes, I was also told that the food was really good there at Central Station and the owners are always nice to the “Shrine personnel “ –

I know it is only October – but – then February is just around

the corner also – Think about it: As of this writing 15th OCT 2015 -

Oct: Halloween: 16 days; Nov: Thanksgiving: 41 days; Dec: Christmas:

70 days; Jan: New Years Day:77 days; Feb: Shrine Circus: 133 days.

The next Shrine Circus in Dodge City will be the 65th Shrine Circus to be presented in Dodge. So, Please put this on your calendar. The 2016 circus will be the weekend of 26th – to – 28th February.

We are going to have 3 days and 8 shows of one SUPER CIRCUS for 2016.

Friday: Feb: 26 --- 2 showsSaturday: Feb: 27 --- 3 showSunday: Feb: 28 --- 3 showsThe DC Shrine Club will hold their

NOVEMBER meeting on the 11th, Wednesday. The meeting will be held at the Casey’s Cowtown Club, 503 E. Trail St., Dodge City, KS (620) 227 – 5225. Social time starts at 6:30 pm. Dinner is at 7:00 pm.

Segway --- The studies have shown that each of us are given about 30,000 minutes here on this planet – So in the next 10 days pick up the phone / or / write a card / or / letter to those people in your life that have made a difference to YOU. Those people that YOU do not want to lose in 2015 or 2016. Be honest about it – Send a note / or / a phone call to anyone in the past 12 months who has helped make a difference in YOUR life and given YOU a smile on YOUR face.

God willing and the sails at my back in the upcoming month, I will be back here writing some more for you in November……

“May All Your Days Be Circus Days”Have a truly blessed and wonderful month.Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen Good night America wherever you are.

Greenwood County CARL “C.F.” COXReporter

Well… Last month I closed with see you at the Haunted House. As you know by now it didn’t happen this year. We had a good run with it lasting 10 years, but it seems that the same group that made it happen every year ran out of energy and new ideas to keep it fresh. I guess all good things must come to an end. However, when something ends, something else begins. Our fundraising committee has come up with a plan to sell ribs by the rack. Greenwood County has always been known for our ability to prepare great food and this is no exception. As I am writing this we are selling tickets for racks of ribs that are smoked, sealed and delivered. The plan is to have the first wave delivered at Fall Ceremonial, and if it goes well, we will do it again. If it is a success and you liked them there will be a chance to order more, and if you missed out on the first round and heard how good they were, be ready to make your order for round #2. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, contact any of the 3-Wheelers and they can fix you right up!

Speaking of 3-Wheelers, we are finish-ing out our parade season at Arkalalah Parade in Ark City and Neewollah Parade

in Independence, Cattlemen’s Day and Fall Ceremonial. Of

course these haven’t happened as I am writing this, so I’m hoping for good weather and lots of red bikes on the

parade route. We have had a very good parade season and these should be no excep-tion. Thanks to everyone that has been able to participate and made this another successful year of parades for the 3-Wheelers.

Sounds like we will be cooking steaks once again for the Cattlemen’s Banquet in Eureka on November 7th. As I said before, the word is out about our supreme grilling abilities and our grill masters will be hard at work over the hot coals making sure our local cattlemen get to enjoy some good ole Greenwood County beef. This is the same day as Fall Ceremonial, so it will be a busy day trying to be two places at once!

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. As you are reading this, we will be looking ahead to the holiday season and this will be the last Topics you see before Thanksgiving. With that, I hope everyone takes a moment to reflect on what you have to be thankful for and have an enjoyable Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

I hope everyone who planned to come to the October meeting got the word that there would be no BCSC meeting for October and were able to make the stated meeting at Midian. Noble Raymond Anderson and Lady Linda wouldn’t have attended as they made a sojourn to Salina for the Rebekah Assembly of Kansas annual meeting. Hope it was a good one.

Boy oh boy are Noble Doug Cauthron and Lady Norma having a time of it. They both took falls and having to work through the results. There is no telling how many more doctor visits are in store for them. On a happier note, I heard that Noble A.W. McVay just had himself another birthday. If I remember correctly, Noble Woody Brixey would have just celebrated his not too long ago. Happy Birthday to a couple of guys that have been very instrumental

in our club.Thank you to all that sold

tickets for the Sportsman’s Event for Butler County. That brought some dollars in and we made a small

investment we hope will pan out. We are sponsoring one of the trees for the Fez-tival of Trees with Lady Phyllis Brewer taking the lead. Head on down to Midian sometime during November 12-15, and take a look at all the great ideas that will be on display. You might even win the tree you really like!

Nobles Bruce Rose and Myron Frick are the nominating committee for 2016 BCSC officers. If you are interested in a position, give one of them a call and step up to the plate. Looks like the next meeting will be November 11 th at True Lies in El Dorado at 6:30 pm. Cards will be sent to confirm.

WOW! The Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty was a blast. We would like to thank all of the Units that paraded with us in the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty parade. A special shout out to the horse patrol, they survived following the rowdy vigilante float.

We were happy to represent Barber County in the fire wagons. A big thank

you to D.J. and Nicky Brown for their wonderful hospitality.

Wanted to let Nobles know that tickets for the annual Barber County

Calf Fry will be available at Fall Ceremony. Transportation has been ar-

ranged and will be included in the price of the ticket. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Well the hog roast is history. Many thanks to Chief Rabban Bart Ogden and Lady Lisa, Assistant Rabban Rocky McWilliams and Lady Bev, Recorder Ron VanEtten and Lady Dorie and their special guest Ella Fowler, 1st Ceremonial Master Harold Brewer and Lady Phyllis, 2nd Ceremonial Master Cliff Premer and Lady Kay, Ceremonial Director Mike Ward and Lady Julie, and Outer Guard Scott Shirkey and Lady Nikki and all of the loyal shriners and their ladies for attending. I would like to give a tip of the Fez to Cy Lampe for letting us use his huge smoker to cook the whole hog. It turned out delicious. Also there was the bonfire, but the man who was to deliver the rmelons for the watermelon roast blew out a tire and wound up in the ditch stuck.

Lets not forget the wedding that took place prior to the hog roast. All the chairs were filled along with people standing.

Noble Hank the Mechanic of T-95 performed the nuptials.

It was an outdoors wedding, the groom was handsome and the bride was beautiful in her gown. She was

delivered to her waiting father in a Red Mustang Convertible. I didn’t catch the name of the driver or escort, but he looked like he was proud to have the opportunity to be involved. Welcome to Noble Winston Smith and his Lady Melissa.

Our next event is the pre-glow rib roast at the Shrine on November 6th, We will be serving from 5:30 to 7:30. Boneless ribs, cheezy potatoes made by Gail Morrow, along with Jackie Broyles famous garlic salad with bread and butter, ice tea or water. Hope to see you all there. Tickets are on sale at the Shrine for $12.50 a person.

Our next meeting will be November 4 th and jobs will be assigned at that time for the pre-glow rib roast.

Cartoon JOHN GRACY Reporter

Greetings from Toon Town members, ladies, nobles and friends. What a fantastic month it’s been. The temperatures are finally beginning to cool off, and that’s never a bad thing when you’re dressed in hot foam, felt and fur. Just a couple more months to go and parade season will be over. Feels like it just began. We had some challenges this year with the transportation, but we still made a strong showing throughout the year. We have had so many new members this year that the golf cart has been outgrown. That very same golf cart that was purchased just last year because we didn’t have enough parading members for the tractor! What a great problem to have. Things are looking positive for the future. Speaking of the tractor, it’s looking like we will be able to depend on it for a lot longer than we expected thanks to Noble Farold Hoover and his expertise. Make sure next time you see him, you let him know how much we appreciate him, and his Lady Tracy, as invaluable members of the unit.

We had a good turnout for parades last month. We made it out to the Goddard parade for the first time, and it was wonderful. Very well attended. Haysville and Arkalala parades were fun as usual. Thank you to everyone who has helped us maintain a strong presence

all throughout parade season. The unit had a great time at

Mosley Street Melodrama in October. If you weren’t able to make it you sure missed out. Make sure to watch out for

the next social we have there, because it will definitely happen, and you won’t want to miss all the excitement twice. Thanks to everyone who came out, I hope you had a lot of fun as I know I did.

We also made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. This years winner as recipi-ent of our childish mayhem and shenanigans was Applejacks Pumpkin Patch. Always a lot of fun for the kids. The children seemed to enjoy it too.

Of course we can’t forget about Fall Ceremonial! Never fails to be a crowd pleaser for Nobles old and new alike. Welcome to all of the new Nobles of 2015. If you’re looking for a fun and active unit, with a lot of involvement for the ladies, kid friendly, and you want to dress up in a costume, come check out the Cartoon Unit! We meet the 2nd Thursday of every month at 6:30pm in the Isis room. That’s the room adjacent to the Oasis. Go through the double doors next to the dance floor and then the first door on the left. We’d love to meet you! Plus, our dues are cheap! Until next time, That’s All Folks!!!

NascartsHello race fans it’s your

old pal Rick N Bobby. Sad to say parade season is comin to a close. It has been a fun year. We had 6 cars start at the Haysville parade and they all came home. That is hard to say as the ol 55 car has had a couple dnf’s this year and had to be pushed home. Lets finish the season out strong andget some more cars on the track next year. Welcome to all the new nobles. Find a unit and get involved with the unit and Nascarts has a ride for

you if you like going fast. Happy birthday to Noble Mack Brooks

Nov-7th , Lady Ella Fowler-Nov. 17th. Happy anniversary to Noble Gary Dix and his Lady Phyliss Nov. 3rd and Noble Jon Powell and his lady Michelle on Nov. 28th. Don’t forget to make reservations to the Christmas party. See ya out on the track. OOOOOOWWWWW.

Keystone Kops “MOON”Reporter

Hey, hey, hey how about them Midian Keystone Kops. They just keep on tickin’. We have Kops from their 70’s down to their 20’s. We have beards, moustaches, clean shaven, long hair, short hair and no hair at all. We have flat tops, curly tops, buzz cuts and pony tails. We have tall guys, short guys, fat guys and skinny ones too. You talk about diversification, we have it all covered. Are Ladies are all unique also, but I won’t touch that! Yes we are smart Kops, all of us! All these diversified Keystone Kops will be trying to be at Ceremonial, but not all will make it. It should be a hootenanny of one though as we are going partying out at the Best Western North, aka the Red Coach. It seems to always be a good time out there. Maybe we will see your there?

Halloween is gone, the Kop fall Birthday party is gone and time change is here once again to deal with. We have all these holi-days coming just down the road. The cool fall weather is upon us. Many like this time of year best of all. Life around the Koppers just keeps on happening.

Speaking of which, we will be electing a new Kop Board this month. If you are interested in joining the Board, just throw your hat in the ring, like all the politicians do, and see what happens. We are going to need some Koppers to lead this unit into the next century, so jump on board. Just think about getting that Gold Whistle to wear

around your pretty little neck and joining the group of men who

wear them. As Bob Dukes says “be loud and proud!”

Just a couple of humorous thoughts and I will be out of here. Maybe in this

day and age Midian should think about a “Pote Mobile” or maybe the Kops should have a “Chief Mobile”, gold of course and shaped like a whistle! Also I was thinking the other day about this Metric and Standard measurement deal that has been going on for fifty years! You talk about a messed up situation. Some things are in Metric and some in Standard. You have your meters and millimeters. You have your yards, feet and inches. You have your Celsius and your Fahrenheit temperatures. You just never know what to go by. I say after FIFTY YEARS it is time “let’s do one or the other!” Then Fritz and Ginny can run the thermostat in their camper! Ha, ha, ha! I just couldn’t let that one go! Let’s see, C to F: multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32. Pretty easy stuff for a rocket scientist!

I Wonder?? Why do we have five languages on instruction sheets now, when we could get by with one! I Wonder?? Did Hurley and Lesly tie the knot?? I Wonder?? A Chief Mobile, you have to be kidding?? I Wonder?? Who will be on the 2016 Keystone Kop Board? I Wonder?? Will Hurley survive the Mid Winter meeting?? I Wonder??

Brothers and Sisters as you are reading this, Fall is definitely in place and with it all the activities that come along! The Bad Boar Degree is just around the corner on November 14th and Captain Steve is asking for all the help possible to make our last Fundraiser of the year successful. Don’t forget items for the auction and be reminded that they don’t have to be motorcycle related. Those that attend the Bad Boar understand where the proceeds go and will bid on anything to help! Sounds like Brother A. J. has the food and bar figured out with the help of Brothers Don and Greg so our job is to get the word out on the event and prepped for set up.

Holidays now are just ahead including the Electraglide Elite Christmas Party which is on Friday night December 11 at the Scotch and Sirloin. Don’t miss this fun evening as we celebrate another great year and begin our plans for the upcoming new one! This reporter is already hearing about some Club Rides in 2016 that sound like a blast and with Circus coming in the Spring this time, we’ll get to go back to comfortable riding and fellowship outdoors for a pleasant change!

Old news by now, but for those that

haven’t heard – Brother Rick Whiteside and his Lady Mary are

going to make it official (if they haven’t already). While the Retired Master Chief probably doesn’t deserve such a

great Lady, he’s asked for her hand and we’re to understand that she’s said yes. It could not be happening for a better couple. From all of us in the EE, we wish you two the best of luck and look forward to sharing much of the good times ahead with you.

Make sure you set aside the evening of Wednesday December 16 so you can attend the Midian Stated Meeting. This is a combined Nobles and Ladies event where we’ll support Captain Steve as he presents Electraglide Elite donations to the various funds. Included in that will be the proceeds from our Kid’s Run which will end up over $5,000.00 going to the Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. This is a great opportunity to show the strength and unity that we are proud of in the EE. I recently saw short but very cool quote from Robert Louis Stevenson – it goes “For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move”. We stay on the move in the EE and it shows!

Meeting was held at the Kansas Masonic Home, Thursday, October 8, 2015. There were twenty 7 persons in attendance which included four guests. Richard and Shelia Russell, Midian Members and Two WPD Officers; our guest speakers.

Meeting was called to order by President David Pate, PP at 12:00 noon after a social time at 1:30 am. The pledge of allegiance was led by Noble Bill Weber and the invoca-tion was given by Joan Harris.

We enjoyed a lunch consisting of Tossed Green Salad, Beef Stroganoff & Rice, Green Beans, Pork Roast, Dinner Rolls and Cake for Dessert. Coffee, Tea or Water.

Our two program Wichita Police Department guests were introduced; Officer Ron McHenry and Officer Robin Douty. They team spoke about Scams, Check Frauds and Pshing Calls as well as fake mobile clinic ve-hicles. Each presented information and facts of scammers and the work that they put into their scams that each Officer cautioned our member-

ship about the complexities and told us to slow down, ask questions

from the caller, ask questions about the call and always try to stay ahead of the callers questions about you or a relative

that had “been arrested” and needed bail money, etc. They told us about how to stay safe was we left the malls and to be aware that scammers would ask them to cash a check for them and they could keep several bills and return the rest of the money to them. Both stated, “If it sounds too good to be true, it is”!

Noble Gary Dix gave us Midian’s Liaison Report of happenings at Midian Shrine and to be aware of Fall Ceremonial, Friday and Saturday, November 6th & 7th.

Midian Classics JIM GROFF Reporter

Well as this beautiful Fall Season time of the year has come upon us we enjoy Parade time. The Sedgwick and Conway Springs and Goddard Parades were a fun success with great crowds to support their local Community Festivities. We Classics had been looking forward to the Hayesville Parade, followed by the Arkalalah Parade in late October, with the Classics members gathering together again in downtown Winfield for a great pre-parade lunch on our way to Arkalalah. We do know how to eat, refresh, and be merry!

November 7th is the Midian Shrine Fall Ceremonial for the welcoming into our Midian Shrine of the new Nobles, and we are anxious to “show off the shine” of our Classics Club members Autos in this Wichita fall Parade starting at 4:00PM. After that-we jump on into the Douglas Parade-11/21, and the Anthony Christmas Parade-11/27.

Two tables of Classics had a great time attending the Oct. 2 “Death by Champagne and Chocolate” dinner at the

Scottish Rite Fundraiser for RiteCare Clinic at WSU. It was

another great success and— another “great dinner” and Champagne. Next November co-ed Dinner meet-

ing is on 11/11 in Sedgwick at Cy’s Hoof & Horn. We will have our annual Classics Officers Club election for next year-- 2016 Classics Officers-- after dinner.

Happy Birthday wishes for October go out to Nobles: Cliff Premer (our President), and Terry Schrant. Also our Ladies: Pam Schrant, Judy Groff, and Sandra Ott. Birthdays in November for our Noble: Stephen Wolf, and Lady Melinda Alexander. Happy October Anniversary to Noble: Jerry Mason and his Lady Linda.

Are you interested in Classic Cars? Come join the fun with the Midian Classics. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Pyramid Room at 7:00PM. To find out more about the Classics, contact Noble Bob Giesen at 316-721-4178, or stop by during one of our Classics meetings.

Captain CY Lampe led the October meeting at the Rolling Hills Country club. It was an “interesting” meeting with comments by “John and John Junior” (see below)* among others. As the German says “It’s only money” brothers. The meeting was attended by the Captain, PP John Auch, Nobles Jeff Breault, Austin Henry, Paul Mayfield, Terry Henry, Mickey West, PP Ron Capps, Ole Dave Johnson, Richard Darge, PP Doug Roland, Frank Galbraith, Trustee Lynn Ungles, Loren Wormington and me.

Clearwater and Conway Springs parades started for the OB, Kops, Motor Patrol, ladies, guests and others at Unreins’ barn with eye openers. We got our vitamin C for each day. The biscuits and gravy were hearty so the unit parade vehicles would not blow away. It was Great fun and fellowship, Thank you. The unit had a Fish Fry that week for a social with Noble Mickey West and Captain Cy Lampe working the deep fry food du-ties. We appreciate Lady Donna Unrein’s generosity and hospitality for Midian and the Motor Patrol. We love you Donna. The Clearwater parade on the September 19th was followed by the Post CSSA party. Captain Cy Lampe and the crew presented first place trophy in the Modified Vehicle Class from CSASMC competition to the Potentate. Conway Springs September 26 was the scene of great hospitality that caused the shooting competition to start late. We had Great steaks cooked by Noble Mickey West and high dollar targets. We got to shoot a 50 caliber hand gun that kicks like a 12 gage shotgun.

The parade crews included Nobles Cy Lampe, Lynn Ungles, Terry

Henry, Mickey West, Paul Mayfield, PP Ron Capps, Bob Ragsdale, Ron Stowell, HP&P Reiferd Acord and Dave Johnson. Noble Jeff Breaults fuel pump failed or he would have been there.

The Oktoberfest party on the 9th was hosted by Noble Scott and lady Nikki Shirkey and our own AR Rocky McWilliams and lady Bev. Lady Debbie and I took a dif-ferent aspect on costume ideas and won with Sigmund Freud and Albert Einstein. I tried to learn Polka from very skilled teachers, but I was better at drinking the Oktoberfest Beers on the Oasis special. The Haysville Parade on October 17 was attended by the usual parading members of the unit. No animals were harmed at that parade.

One of our ‘out of unit’ Jeepsters was hauling a queen in the Gay Pride community parade in Wichita last month. So far no one in the “manly man” unit confess to taking the pictures. (We really know who took it.) We have fun. We have Jeepsters for sale or rent to be a part of the “Most Active unit in Shrinedom”. Motor Patrol is A unit of Wild and crazy guys. Jeepster pictures and History of our activities are found on the www.motorpatrol.us website and our Facebook page.

*”John and John Junior” were the names given to PP John Auch and Noble Austin Henry by lady Judy Acord at CSSA in Denver for reasons not specified in the Topics.*

some turtles it is time to winterize the portable shell, for others its time to prepare to head South for the winter. Whatever you may be doing we hope to see you back out at the lake in April. Noble Gary Dix, Secretary/Treasurer. Mark your calendars for

Million Dollar Band RICK MILHON Reporter

October was the Polkatz’ month. Celebrating Oktoberfest is very popu-lar these days. Midian’s Oom-pah band started on October 10 with a matinee at Larksfield Assisted Living. The evening show that Saturday was at Midian where we helped move the party along, being relieved later by the Disk Jockey.

On Wednesday, October 14, the Polkatz played for Avita Health & Rehab at Reeds Cove. An appreciative audience was on hand.

For several years Cessna, now Textron Aviation has called on the Polkatz to help with a work break celebration at the respective plants. Tuesday, October 20 we represented Midian Shrine in the Dining Room at the Pawnee plant. Wednesday found the Polkatz in Plant 4 of Beechcraft. We traveled southwest on Thursday to play in the large Mid Continent or Wallace plant. Friday found us on Maize Road where Textron builds things for aircraft interiors.

Other Million Dollar Bands were not idle

during the month. Rehearsals continued. The Concert Band

prepared for Midian’s Fall Ceremonial. On October 27 the Dancekatz played big band swing concert at the Masonic

Home. Now I don’t know about you, but for

me playing music requires concentration. I focus on the music in front of me, the notes, the markings of dynamics and articulation. I do my best to make each note fit the music and to be in its proper balance with the rest of the musical group. When I get through, I find my mind less cluttered with distractions. I feel better.

We don’t believe in keeping the fun to ourselves, so bring your horn or stick bag and join us on a Monday evening for Dancekatz rehearsal at 7 and/or the Concert Band rehearsal at 8:30; the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7:30 for the Polkatz rehearsal; or the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 7:30 for the Dixiekatz rehearsal.

Sidewinders are looking forward! By the time you read this the Midian Shrine Sidewinders have been to the Ararat Temple in Kansas City and held a demonstration with 3 other temples in the KCK/KCMO area to assist them in creating their own drift trike units. How cool is that! Midian Shrine is on the cutting edge of advancing the philanthropy that is the Shriners Hospital for Children!

We predict that within 2 years almost every temple in the country will have a drift trike unit of their own, and Midian Shrine was there from the beginning. This is a fantastic opportunity to build membership in the Shrine because people of all ages love the drift trikes. What a way to get people

involved!The Sidewinders have also put

together a tree for The Feztival of Trees November 12-15, come check us out.

We also are pleased to announce that we have gone hi-tech! The members of

HOT DOG, we had a ROAST! The Directors Staff members took a little time off from practicing for Fall Ceremonial to roast a few hot dogs on an open fire, relax and enjoy a little camaraderie. Once again Noble Gary Gelvin and Lady Denise were gracious enough to host approximately 40 of the Directors Staff Nobles and Ladies on a beautiful Saturday October 3rd afternoon for fantastic food and fellowship. The Directors Staff unit provided the hot dogs, buns and homemade chili while the attendees brought some of the best side dishes and desserts imaginable. The fall weather was so beautiful that everyone just wanted to sit outside by the fire, watch a little college football and enjoy the good time and chat with friends.

And speaking of Fall Ceremonial, it is upon us and November 7th will be a special day for all involved. The Directors Staff is

working hard to be ready to put on a superior presenta-tion for the serious sections

as well as the fun section. What would help is if we had the Scottish Rite auditorium filled with Nobles supporting the candidates as they embark on their pilgrimage over the sands of the desert, followed by a full Mecca Room as we welcome them to Midian in our own special way. Let’s let them know that we really welcome them to our first- class organization.

Put it on your calendar to join the Directors Staff in the Oasis on December 31st as we host the Midian New Year’s Eve party. If you have attended in the past you know what fun it is and won’t want to miss. Doors open at 7:00, the festivities with DJ Jim Bob Montgomery start at 8:00 and champagne toast at midnight. Look for more information in the ad elsewhere in this Topics.

Answer: He was also a Mason!: In 1908, Br. Henry Ford unveiled the Model T — “A car for anybody and everybody.” By 1927, there were more model Ts on the road than all other cars combined. Ironically, this was the same year that saw the end to the Model T. Br. Ford was raised in Palestine Lodge #357, Detroit, in 1894. When he received his 33rd in 1940, he said, “Masonry is the best balance wheel, the United States has.”

I wish you all a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Arab PatrolFirst Lieutenant Larry Tomes

was named Midian Shriner of the Month for August. Earlier this past spring, Captain Kyle Rhorer was name Midian Shriner of the Month for May.

In September, the brother of Veteran Patrolman Loyd Geist passed away in Oklahoma. The Patrol extends its condo-lences, thoughts and prayers to the family.

In early October, the Midian Arab Patrol had a family day at the Sedgwick County Zoo, thanks to Past Captain Dick Simpson. The weather turned out to be ideal and a great time was held by fifty plus people that attended.

Congratulations to Taylor West for her induction into the National Honor Society. Taylor is the daughter of Second Lieutenant

Brian West and Lady Amber. Upcoming events include the

Fall Pre-Glow in the Oasis on November 6th and the Fall Ceremonial on the 7th. The patrol will be serving as Honor/

Color Guard for the First Section fol-lowed by the Flag Ceremony, Parade and After Glow at Best Western off Interstate I-135 and 53rd St North.

The Patrol is also planning to attend the Christmas Express in force. Please contact the Captain as soon as possible if you plan to attend so he can reserve a block of seats at the Orpheum. Like last year, we are planning to meet for dinner before the show.

Finally, the Arab Patrol Christmas Party is planned for December 12th. More details next month.

THE GOOD: 34 of us indulged ourselves at the Yoder Farm on October 8th. The hosts again this year were Noble Ambassador Kenny Loffland and Lady Billie. Lady Billie is just home from thyroid surgery, but you’d never know it when watching her meet and greet everyone. Noble Ambassador Bob Fox and Lady Donna Fox had guests. Their son Greg and his dear friend Jan Fellers. We’d sure like to see Greg wearing a Fez.

We were delighted to welcome Noble Ambassador Gary Young into our Unit as our newest member. All those who know Noble Gary and Lady Shirley can testify as to what good members they will be.

Our Director General Noble Al Bass and Lady Retta explained about how and where they’ll be traveling on the Potentate’s trip. Our loyal Chief of Council Noble Art Van Dresser was missed at the October Stated meeting. His regular chair being void brought attention from the entire membership. Art was tooting his horn, entertaining at a local retirement center that night.

Other guests were Lady Mary Bartlet’s daughter and Noble Ambassador Andy Roberts and Lady Cappy’s daughter from St. Louis. Noble Ambassador John McDonald and Lady Abby had their student house guests from Taiwan and China join us in experiencing the Kansas farm life and food extraordinare. (Be assured, they’ll have something to write home about).

And, in case anyone forgot, Columbus Day was Noble Ambassador Robert Norris, M.D’s. 98th birthday. Doc and Lady Gerry are now residing at Georgetown and Doc is a regular at the Beacon. Noble Ambassador Tonk Mills,

P.P. and Lady Jayne slipped out in their bright yellow Corvette. What a

pretty car. Tonk forgot just how far Yoder was and how little gasoline he had in the Vette. They were able to limp it back to

Haven and find a station just as the rain blew in from the south. I’ll bet that washing the Vette is something Tonk is good at. Noble Ambassador Ray Barber and Lady Anne are the new owners of a classic Corvette that Ray is rebuilding.

We were delighted to see Noble Ambassador Ron Van Etten, P.P., our faithful Midian Recorder, and Lady Dorie who were able to join us due to the fact that we were meeting on a Thursday this month. Noble Ambassador Glenn Holmes and Lady Carol joined this us sporting their new Equinox. When asked how the heater works, Glenn quickly responded “Carol’s fine”.

THE BAD: We’re sorry to report that Noble Ambassador Jim House is suffering in “Life Care” just north of Central on Edgemoor where Murdock Elementary used to be. Our prayers are with Jim and Lady Elizabeth. Noble Ambassador Les Hostetler, P.P. in now in Presbyterian Manor. Lady Wanda is also a resident there. They get to share meals together but are in different life care sections.

THE UGLY: Well, not exactly. But our Fall Ceremonial is just around the corner. Candidates are short in number so we should all be thinking “Membership”. Any Blue Lodge Member who has not stepped up and walked the sands should be encouraged to do so. The boys at the Beacon are still there every morning 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 ,a.m. Come on down and bring a friend.

the Midian Shrine for the efforts our members put out in selling tickets to the Sportsman Event this year. We did well and it will help the unit with expenses for the coming year. Thank you to all members, family, and friends who sold tickets or bought them from us.

The Yoshi Christmas Party is this month on Friday the 20th. We are doing a white elephant gift exchange with an adult beverage them. Please call for a location. Hope to see you there.

Fall ceremony is soon and we’ll be providing snacks for the

After-Glow. If you can contribute in some way let us know at the unit meeting on the 2nd. Parade season is almost over

so if you can make a few parades towards the end of the year we’ll see you there. Thank you to all the Yoshi members who regularly parade and give up their time to be out there. Let’s hope next year is as good or better.

It’s been a busy year for the Midian Van Unit! We have made many trips to St. Louis, western Kansas and wherever the need takes us. It is time for a bit of relaxation in our busy schedules unless a family needs us.

On December 6th at 2pm in the Kansas Masonic home auditorium, our Van Unit will have our annual Christmas dinner. Dinner will include roast pork loin, lasagna, vegetables and drink. Cost per person will be $12. Entertainment will be provided by Delores and the Pickin’-Fretter. They perform old timey gospel and rock with a folksy twist. Entertainment will begin after dinner.

There is a fee for entertain-ment and we will be taking up

a free will donation to cover their fee. To make reservations, contact Commander Don Bush. His home

phone number is (316) 688-1739 or his cell (316) 655-9730. It is being said that if you confirm reservations you will be held responsible for cost of dinner. In other words, please make sure you show up.

Now that is taken care of, Earlene and myself would like to thank all Nobles and their Ladies for a tremendous job done this year! From both of us, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As always Fall is filled with activity. The Kandyland Klowns are parading at Haysville, Arkalalah and the Great Pumpkin Patch. The Krafty Krew delivered 20 fleece blankets to the Sleepy Hollow Ronald McDonald House for premature babies. The Bloomin’ Buddies heard gardening tips from a Master Gardener at their last meeting.

The pecans will be arriving soon. We’ll let our customers know when delivery will be made. Thanks for all the orders.

We have completed breakfast for the Midian Nomads at Lake Afton for the summer. Our Trailers cooked and served the October breakfast while the Arami Ladies attended the Mid-States Unit Meet in Independence, MO. Thanks Nomads for the opportunity.

We will be selling steaks in November. If you’re interested in some for holiday giving, contact Lady Dianna Clay or any of

our Ladies. Our Christmas social is planned

for December 13 at Stroud’s. The meal will be “dutch treat”. Deadline for reservations is December 3.

Seventeen Ladies and one Noble (the Illustrious Sir Wayne) have a fun weekend at the “Show Me the Light” Mid-States Unit Meet, October 9 & 10. On a personal note, thank you to the Illustrious Sir for escorting me at the afternoon performance of the units. The Kandyland Klowns, Krafty Krew and Kan-Du-Dancers all performed beautifully. Well, that might not be quite the right word but I was very proud of them.

Many of us are getting ready for Fez-tival of Trees by making wreaths, centerpieces and decorating trees. Be sure to come see the dazzling work.

Until next month, we are “Beacons of Light”.

Daughters of the Nile JPQ SUE SHEETSReporter

What an exciting time October has been for Zohar Temple No. 65. We just completed another Supreme Queen visit. SQ Sharon K. St. John arrived in Derby, Tuesday, October 6th. A large group of our members met at Mad Rocks Grill in Derby for dinner and a visit with SQ Sharon. The next day was our official visit with a Ceremonial, taking in four new Princesses. A very big welcome to our new-est members. Our own Queen Sue Towns did an outstanding job and a lovely banquet was held later that evening. Thanks to everyone who came and gave us their support.

Our next big event is a Quarter Mania Fundraiser. It is November 8th from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM. Doors open at 1:00 PM. It will be held at the Kansas Masonic Home Auditorium. The address is 401 South Seneca. If you have not attended a Quarter Mania before it is a cross between an auc-tion and a raffle where people bid to win an

item or product of new goods donated from local businesses and

home businesses. With your entry “fee” donation of $5 you will receive one number paddle, one ball with matching

number from paddle, and one raffle ticket for the grand prize. Additional paddles and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Also there will be snacks and refreshments for purchase during the event. Bring your quarters! Bidding starts at just one quarter for items valued at $1-$29, 2 quarter bid for items valued at $30- $59, 3 quarter bid for items valued at $60-$79, and 4 quarter bid for items $80-up. Half of the proceeds will go to the general fund of Zohar Temple No. 65 and the other half will go to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation which directly supports the Shrine Hospitals. Come out and support us and have a lot of fun also.

Our next regular session is Monday, November 2nd.
