Bee-Bot – The Best Route
What is control?
LI: I am learning to understand that programming the device can control an
object. (AC - Recognise and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose)
Success Criteria:
I can begin to explain what an input and output is on a digital system
Draw three everyday things that can be programmed.
What is the Bee-Bot?
LI: I am learning to use the Bee-Bot and talk about it. (AC - Recognise and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose)
Success Criteria:
I can begin to read the written language for each command
I can name each Bee-Bot feature and describe what it does
go FD BK LT
clear pause RT
I can match the correct symbol of the Bee-Bot to the correct language
go

FD
pause

I can move the Bee-Bot using the commands (photo evidence)
PAUSE

What is an Algorithm?
LI: I can explain what an algorithm is. (AC - Follow, describe and represent a sequence of steps and decisions (algorithms) needed to solve
simple problems)
Success Criteria:
✓ I can explain to my partner about what an algorithm is.
✓ I can draw a line to match the correct sentence starter and ending.
✓ I can begin to read my sentence to see whether it makes sense.
✓ I can create my own algorithm for my partner to move around the
classroom. (photo evidence)
An algorithm is testing it on paper first.
Algorithms are written a set of instructions to do a task.
Tracing an algorithm is to describe computer programs.

Assessment Task
Who is in your group:
Task:
You will create and write an algorithm that is the best route for
the Bee-Bot to move around the Farm Yard, making sure you:
start at the House
pause at the Pig Pen to feed the pigs
avoid crashing into any fences
avoid falling into the pond
finish at the shed
First Attempt Challenge
Description
Algorithm - sequence of steps (Remember to use your directional command
cards to help write your algorithm)
start on
pause at the
avoid
finish at the
Final Attempt Challenge
Description
Algorithm - sequence of steps (Have another group/ or partner check your
work)
start on
pause at the

Self Evaluate your own algorithm (Check List)
Tick the following:
Did you start at the house?
Did you pause at the Pig Pen to
feed the pigs?
Did you avoid crashing into any fences?
Did you avoid falling into the pond?
Did you finish at the shed?
Did you debug your errors?
Did you use positional language?
How do you feel about your work?

Representing Data (information) LI: I am learning to use a graph to represent how many steps my group’s
Best Bee-Bot routes were. (AC- Collect, explore and sort data, and use digital systems to present the data creatively)
Success Criteria:
✓ I can total the number of steps for my best route.
✓ I can share this information with my group.
✓ I can complete the tally.
✓ I can decide how many Bee-Bot pictures will represent my number of
steps.
✓ I can graph the work.
Who is in your group/class and what were their totals:
Name Number of steps
Draw how you would represent this information as a graph:
