What are adaptations?

Adaptations are things animals use to survive in their environment. Animals use camouflage to blend in to their habitat. They migrate to warmer places and they hibernate to survive the winter. Some animals estivate to keep their skin moist in the summer. Dormancy slows the growth of plants. All plants and animals use adaptations.

Dormancy

This is a dormant Dogwood

Tree. Dogwood trees are the state

tree of Virginia. They are dormant in

the fall and winter. They lose their

leaves and their stems turn brown

when they go into dormancy.
