Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in China. The day itself — this year, Saturday, January 28th, 2017, initiating another year of the rooster.

A lso known as “chun jie” , “ 春节” or the Spring Festival, lasts 15 days!

The festival has its origin with the end of the harvest, the one time when farmers could rest from their work in the fields.

It's a joyous time of family reunion and two full weeks of intense feasting.

From clothing to lanterns, red, according to legend, can drive away bad luck.

A s the crackling flames are believed to ward off evil spirits, fireworks are major celebrations.

The most important tradition is the feasting. There are several “lucky” foods that bode success and fortune.
