Floors ?

Epoxy and Polyurethane floor covering screeds are capable of producing beautiful and durable results

And yet….

Some times we get these awful looking bubbles emerging in the surface….

Bubbles are formed while the screed is still wet and is being applied.

Bubbles appear when there is gas trapped inside the screed

What causes these bubbles and how can we prevent them from appearing?

Here are the main reasons:

A surface needs to be properly sealed and primed. When you are ready to apply the floor screed all pores need to have been adequately sealed.

Fill all cracks, holes and dents with suitable epoxy filling grout

Beware of:

- Rough concrete

- Sandy cement surfaces

- Foamy (or light) cement mortars

- Existing holes in the substrate

- Moisture or dampness on the substrate

Work only with trained personnel.

Use spiked rollers in order to eliminate gas that may be present in the floor screed.

Use spiked shoes to be able to easily access all areas of the floor that is under installation

Make sure the entire surface is well lit so that all problems are visible

Pay special attention to corners, edges, and near walls. This is where most problems with bubbles occur

Be careful when mixing the various components. Use an electric mixer with an adjustable speed (no more than 300rpm).

High-powered high-speed mixers that have been designed for other uses (like mixing cement or plasters) may generate new bubbles

Producers of such coatings need to put certain procedures in place in order to remove the gases during the manufacturing phase

Low-quality products usually generate many more bubbles as they have not been properly formulated in order to save costs
