Welcome to Pizza Roma Café
It is like a melting pot where tourists meet locals immerse themselves in the
Middle Eastern culture
Myself Raymond, the owner I live at my Hotel and eat at my restaurant
I made sure I get variety of dishes, quality of food at reasonable
price , high standard of hygiene and helpful attentive friendly staff.
Raymond background
Semi retired business man immigrated to Australia after 67 WAR from
Palestine the Biblical land of milk and honey to the land of milk and
money.
Most beautiful country in the world.
I took a side trip from Amman to Damascus/Syria in 2006.
I loved that city I bought a small hotel and made it my home.
I turned it to a hostel where the average visitor can afford as I love meeting
people from all nations.it became an Icon for tourists visiting Syria.
The hostel was built over the Old City Wall some ten meters high.
I dropped a rope ladder climb up and slide down the wall on a firemen pole.
It became a big tourists attraction a must stop and take photos as guests
want to climb the robe ladder to Check In the Good times went on for 4
years Sadly that has come to an end with the start of the revolution in 2011 I
shut shop and returned to Amman.
I loved downtown and bought a small hotel I called It Amman Pasha.
I live at hotel with my animal pets on roof patio this reminds me of
back home, Australia where I lived for over forty years.
I enjoy meeting travelers and working long hours in my retirement.
I hope you enjoy your visit.
Don’t miss the great views from roof terrace.
Amman Pasha Hotel RAYMOND
Had a very difficult childhood. Apart from living in the abject
poverty of the Palestinian refugees after 1948, in 1951, I
contacted the polio virus and became bedridden, crippled, and
unable to walk or talk.
Somehow, I recovered, but I still suffer from post-polio syndrome
with ill effects, fatigue, and limited movement of the legs which
haunt me as I grow older. I need frequent rest during the day
In the late 1980s, I was constantly feeling tired from a lack of
sleep. I had to shut down my thriving business of women’s fashion
and accessories throughout Australia. It was later discovered that I
suffer from sleep apnea. This medical condition was not known
until the 1990s when an Australian doctor, Kevin Sullivan, discovered that this is a serious medical condition that
can lead to stroke, heart attack, diabetes and constant exhaustion if not treated.
During the 1990s, Dr. Sullivan and his team at the ResMed Medical Company developed a device called the CPAP
(continuous positive airway pressure) device. This device blows air through the nose and keeps the throat opened
so that air/oxygen continues flowing into the lungs. I was a guinea pig during the trials of the device.
In the late 1990s, CPAP devices were commercially produced. When I received one, I had a new lease on life. I will
have to sleep with this device for the rest of my life.
In appreciation of what I have been given, I introduced this medical wonder device to Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and
Syria. I believe it saved the lives of thousands of people in these countries over last 18 years.
We like to think we, at the Amman Pasha, are a philanthropic, community-based establishment. The money we
make pays our bills and gives back to the community and members of the staff.
Soup kitchen
We are running a soup kitchen for needy people who cannot afford a hot meal. It has been very successful with
our neighbors and visitors in downtown.
Clothing bank
We are now working on collecting unwanted clothing. We receive donations from all over, especially from expats
leaving Jordan. We offer collected clothing to poor and disadvantaged people in the downtown area.
Loans to students
We give loans to students who cannot afford to go to university. Without this money, they could miss out going to
college. These interest-free loans pay university fees. Once the student graduates and gets a job, he pays back the
loan in small monthly installments. We put the money in a box and invest it in educating other students. A win-win
situation.
Personal rehabilitation
We give jobs to dropouts and people who have been in trouble in the past, when no one wants to employ them.
They may be addicted to alcohol or illegal drugs, or they may have just come out of jail and have no home and no
chance of employment. We house them and rehabilitate them; giving them a job helps them become a useful
member in the community.
East meet west
We have opportunities for foreign students from all over the world to live and do volunteer work at the hotel.
They have a chance to enjoy the country, the people, and the culture, and learn Arabic. They make friends with
locals. The locals learn about life in the West and are exposed to a foreign language – another win-win situation.
We train them in various jobs and give them references which assist them getting a job once they go back to their
countries. They get a reference and a certificate added to their CV.
Matchmaking
We make it easy and encourage for our guests and customers, and volunteer workers to mix with locals and staff.
In some cases after introduction, relationships developed, and people married and become partners in life. So far,
we have had half a dozen cases which ended successfully – a similar number of matches happened while I had the
Damascus Hostel, a record I am proud of.
Walking tour of Amman
We have started the ‘Free Walking Tours’ in downtown Amman, guided by Local men grew up in the area or
college students who want to earn few dinars to supplement their living expenses to make ends meet. Visiting
tourists love it and the locals enjoy meeting visitors and practicing their spoken English.
Preserving traditional culture
Most nights during the winter, we hold traditional Bedouin, Jordanian, Palestinian nights of song and group
dancing the Dabkeh and DIHIE, . Our show brings life back to Wast Al-Balad (downtown Amman). Its the only
traditional song and dance in town ,A must see when in Amman
Teaching Arabic to our guests
Learn spoken Arabic Amieh. We encourage our staff member to teach interested visitors the local language Amieh
(everyday language) for free.
Foot care
Because we care about our guests we offer free foot massage. When you are out and about all day walking and
sightseeing, there is nothing better than a revitalizing foot massage.
Animal sanctuary
I always had a love for animals and now we receive injured and unwanted animals. We treat them, feed them, and
give them tender love and care. Some of these animals run free range n the lobby, my office, and on the roof top
terrace. People enjoy touching and feeding them. I always look to buy caged birds of prey, owl hawk or eagle, i
feed them take them to vet and set them free when they are ready to fly
