Office Hours are held in AIM: Mon & Wed 9 PM to 10 PM EST (unless it’s a holiday)

Hint: Needed for Unit 1 homework

Classes are 10 weeks in length ◦ the last week does not have a seminar.

Each week comprises 1 unit.◦ Week 1=Unit 1

Units begin every Wednesday and end on the following Tuesday.

Each Unit will include the following:◦Seminar◦Discussion◦Participation◦Homework (usually)

Weeks might also include the following:◦Quiz

Seminar time is limited and goes by quickly

Please adhere to the following policies to be sure that we can cover everything for the week!

We will be discussing and expanding on the readings.

Seminars add to your understanding of the weekly material.

In addition, it is a time when we can interact with each other.

The first 5 minutes are for greeting your classmates.

Once I state that the seminar has started, please do not post any other greetings.

This bears repeating….Please do not greet each other at any other time.

Please do not announce that you are late

or that you are leaving the seminar early.

Why?--It tends to take the class off-track because people feel rude if they do not acknowledge you.

Think about this…. if you were late in a ground class, would you stop the class to announce when you arrived?

◦ For example, if your computer is not working or you are having trouble staying connected, instructors and classmates have no way to help you and the seminar needs to continue despite your issues.

We have so much materialto cover in the hour

Meanwhile, you can call Tech Support to get the help you need.

As a review, conduct yourself as you would in a traditional class setting.

Let’s save the last five minutes of the seminar for questions because chances are that any questions you come with will be covered during the seminar.

Review of Syllabus and Class Requirement Policies

Syllabus Review Make sure you know where to find your

Syllabus. (Course Home & Doc Sharing)◦ Syllabus outlines the course structure◦ Syllabus provides the grading rubric◦ Syllabus provides the late work submission policy◦ Syllabus provides APA formatting information

Where do you find it?◦Go to the left side

of the classroom.◦Under Course

Home, click on Course Syllabus

Doc Sharing will contain many great resources which I would recommend that you visit often. You can also find your chapter readings that are in PDF format.

To submit homework, click on the Dropbox tab.

Select “Submit an Assignment” and then choose the correct “Submit to Basket.”

Naming Conventions:

When assignments are submitted, use the correct naming convention for your document.

Drop Box is your key to homework submittal and to review returned work with instructor comments…..

Note the little paper Icon that shows that the work was submitted correctly.

Now, click on it to check it ~ be sure it is what you meant to send.

Drop Box Instructions:Your Assignment is due in the Dropbox by Midnight (Tuesday) MST. Remember that this needs to be a Word Document that is ATTACHED to the drop

box. For those who might still be struggling with this, here is a step-by-step process for you.

Save the document frequently as you work. NOTE where you saved your document. When you are done, submit your document using the Dropbox directions on the next page.

1. Go the Dropbox to submit the saved file. 2. Click the "Dropbox" tab. 3. Click "Submit an Assignment". 4. Using the drop-down box, choose the assignment. 5. Make sure you have used the correct format (.doc). 6. Click "Add Attachments". Click "Browse..." 7. Go to the folder on your computer that contains your projects. Click on the correct document. The filename should now appear. 8. Click "Attach file". Wait for the file to upload. Click "Ok". Your project has now been submitted.

**You should be able to see the paper ICON in the outbox if you have attached your document appropriately.**

Assignments that are copied and pasted to the comment area of the drop box will be returned without a grade, so please make sure that you attach your document appropriately.

LATE WORK IS THE “EXCEPTION VS. THE RULE”. I DO NOT LIKE LATE WORK.

Work should be submitted on time. If you have an extenuating circumstance:

Contact me by e-mail BEFORE THE DUE DATE with details and EXACT DATES WHEN THE WRITTEN WORK WILL BE READY FOR GRADING

Once the LATE WORK IS COMPLETED:

POST THE LATE WORK IN THE APPROPRIATE DROPBOX FOR THE UNIT

SEND AN E-MAIL WITH THE LATE WORK ATTACHED.

NOTE: I do not go back looking for late work after a unit closes unless I know it is there to be graded.

PLEASE BE ADVISED:

LATE POINTS WILL BE Deducted

Please note: even though you will lose points for late work, it is better to submit late work to get some points vs. no work

and obtain zero points.

NO WORK WILL BE GRADED THAT IS MORE THAN TWO WEEKS (2) AFTER THE REGULAR UNIT DUE DATES – NO EXCEPTION

You will not be able to submit late work from the beginning of the term. NO Exceptions.

NO LATE DISCUSSION BOARDS POINTS AFTER UNIT CLOSES.

Why? Discussion Boards are intended for interaction and learning….failure to post on time will limit your interaction on the unit’s topic.

No Discussion Board postings during the Unit = 0 points for that unit

Discussion boards are an important part of online learning. It is through the discussion boards we discuss the topics of the week, interact and discuss our experiences related to the TOPIC OF THE WEEK and learn from each other: Therefore it is vital to stay on top of your weekly unit expectations

Minimum of three postings per question

Less than three pots will result in loss of points

At least one reference in a posting (preferably the initial posting)

See syllabus for exact requirements

Make your first post no later than Saturday of the unit week; earlier is better.

NOTE: Postings made all on the last day of the unit will incur a 10 point discussion board loss. No exception. Please post as required.

(I hate when students lose points!)

APA FORMATTING

APA FORMATTING IS A MUST FOR THE CLASS:STUDENTS OFTEN LOSE POINTS DUE TO:

Failure to provide a cover page for work submitted

Failure to double space documents and indent paragraphs

Failure to cite in your answers (citing substantiates answers – provides validity and credibility to your points)

Failure to provide a reference page and format the reference page properly

General formatting (there are others).

The citations options are available at the Purdue owl website provided to you via e-mail and in announcements. Please use the examples when you cite.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

For each citation used in the written document you should have:

A complete formatted reference for the each citation used. (notice the hanging indent of each line after the first line). The lines ARE NOT CENTERED but indented

See the www.englishpurdueowl.edu....in the search box put in references, citations or other items needed.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/6/

Example The In text citation is: (Berndt, 2002)

The accompanying reference for the in text citation is:

Berndt, T. J. (2002). Friendship quality and social development. Current

Directions in Psychological Science, 11, 7-10.

Please don’t lose points for poor formatting. When in doubt just ask for help…

You can do this with Success!
