GENERAL INSPECTIONS UNITGeneral Business Fire InspectionThe Phoenix Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division is responsible for ensuring businesses and occupancies in the City of Phoenix comply with the Phoenix Fire Code. The goal is not only code compliance but the safety of those who work or visit the businesses. Conducting fire inspections is a key parts of this process. Some types of businesses and occupancies require fire inspections on a set schedule while others occur when requested or when violations are reported. Below are the common inspections the Phoenix FireDepartment's Fire Prevention Division conducts:
• Public Assemblies - Indoor events. (Night clubs/bars, restaurants, meeting and event facilities, event halls, and other businesses that are designed as a place of gathering for 50 or more persons.
• Public Assemblies - Outdoor events. (Carnivals, street fairs, haunted houses, mazes)• Tents and Canopies or other membrane structures• Hospitals & Nursing Homes• State of Arizona licensed health care facilities• Big Box retail stores• Fireworks and pyrotechnics• Bonfires• Tradeshows

Tents and Outdoor EventsYour outside event or event tent may require a permit from the Phoenix Fire Department. If you have an outdoors event that anticipates more than 500 people attending, or you have fencing/barriers that confine more than 50 people, you will need an Outdoor Public Assembly Permit. Also, if you have an event tent with no sidewalls over 800 sqft or tents wit sidewalls over 1,200 sqft you will need a Tent/Canopy Permit.

PLAN SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTSInformation on construction documents.
Construction documents shall be drawn to scale.
Electronic media documents are allowed to be submitted where approved by the fire code official.
Construction documents shall be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of this code and relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as determined by the fire code official.
Two sets of accurate and legible fire protection system component plans shall be submitted to the fire code official for approval, in the following scale:
Site Plans 1 inch = 50 feet
Fire Protection Systems 1/8 inch = 1 foot
Other scales may be used with prior approval from the fire code official.
Electronic submittals require a bar graph scale on each page.
Fire protection system shop drawings.
Shop drawings for the fire protection system(s) shall be submitted to indicate compliance with this code and the construction documents, and shall be approved prior to the start of installation.
Shop drawings shall contain all information as required by the referenced installation standards in Chapter 9.
