WELCOME! The following prayer may be used as you
prepare for worship:
Almighty God, we confess that we remain captive to doubt
and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death.
We overlook the poor and the hungry and pass by those
who mourn. We are deaf to the cries of the oppressed and
indifferent to calls for peace.
We despise the weak and abuse the earth you made.
We think we earned and deserve our power and
position. We think our power and position is for our own
comfort and to fulfill our own desires.
Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power
to change our lives and make us new, that we may know
the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, and that we, the Church, may
be a blessing to our city and our world.
Amen.
Sanctuary Services THE CHURCH IN CORPORATE WORSHIP JUNE 7, 2015
REFLECTION
It is a wonderfully liberating experience when the desire to please God overtakes the desire to please ourselves, and when love for others displaces self-love. True freedom is not freedom from responsibility to God and others in order to live for ourselves, but freedom from ourselves in order to live for God and others. - John Stott
Onthewhole,IdonotfindChristians, outsideofthecatacombs, sufficientlysensibleofconditions. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what sort of power we so blithely invoke? Or, as I suspect, does no one believe a word of it? Thechurchesarechildrenplayingonthefloorwiththeirchemistrysets, mixing up a batch of TNT to kill a Sunday morning. It is madness to wear ladies’ straw hats and velvet hats to church; we should all be wearing crash helmets. Ushersshouldissuelifepreserversandsignalflares; they should lash us to our pews. Forthesleepinggodmaywakesomedayandtakeoffense, or the waking god may draw us out to where we can never return. - Annie Dillard
Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength To serve the King of kings.
Rise up, O men of God! The kingdom tarries long. Bring in the day of brotherhood And end the night of wrong.
Rise up, O men of God! The church for you doth wait, Her strength unequal to her task; Rise up and make her great!

COME THOU FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING
Written by Robert Robinson,[Born: September 27, 1735,
Swaffham, Norfolk, England.Died: June 8, 1790, Showell
Green, Warwickshire,
Robinson’s widowed mothersent him at age 14 to London,
to learn the trade of barberand hair dresser. However,
his master found he enjoyedreading more than work.
Converted to Christ at age17, Robinson became a
Methodist minister. He latermoved to the Baptist churchand pastored in Cambridge,
England.
He wrote a number ofhymns, as well as books onthe subject of theology. His
later life was evidently not aneasy one, judging from a wellknown story about this hymn
“Come, Thou Fountof Every Blessing.”
One day, he encountered awoman who was studying ahymnal, and she asked how
he liked the hymn she washumming. In tears, he
replied, “Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who
wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thou-sand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then.”
Often our faith is strong.Often weak.
But deep and abiding peacecomes not in our feelingsor in our situation, but inthe unchanging nature of
our God and the Gospel thatsecures for us a solid
foundation on which to live.

OFFERTORY PRAYER • Don Bruner, Deacon of the Day
OFFERTORY • O God, Our Help in Ages Past • ECBC Choir and Orchestra
Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame,From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone;Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.
Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home.
CHRIST IS ALLA Puritan Prayer
O Lover to the uttermost,May I read the meltings of
Thy heart to mein the manger of Thy birth,in the garden of Thy agony,
in the cross of Thy suffering,in the tomb of
Thy resurrection,in the heaven ofThy intercession.
Bold in this thoughtI defy my adversary,
tread down his temptations, resist his schemings, renounce the world,am valiant for truth.
Deepen in me a sense ofmy holy relationship
to Thee,as spiritual bridegroom,
as Jehovah’s fellow,as sinners’ friend.
I think of Thy gloryand my vileness,
Thy majestyand my meanness,
Thy beautyand my deformity,
Thy purity and my filth,
Thy righteousnessand my iniquity.
Thou has loved meeverlastingly,
unchangeably,may I love Thee as I am loved;
Thou hast given Thyself for me,
may I give myself to Thee.Thou hast died for me,
may I live to Theein every moment
of my time,in every movement
of my mind,in every pulse
of my heart.
May I never dally with theworld and its allurements,
but walk by Thy side, listen to Thy voice,
be clothed with Thy grace, and adorned withThy righteousness.
Amen.

BABIES & TODDLERSIn order to maintain
a worshipful atmosphere and for the comfort of our
little ones, we ask that parents exit the service with their cry-ing babies and talkative tod-dlers. We would encourage parents to use our excellent nursery and trained staff to
care for your children.
THE SPOKEN WORDCD’s of today’s sermon ($3
each) may be special ordered through the church office during the week. The
messages may also be heard online at the church website.
RESPONDING TO THE WORD
As we sit under the reading and teaching of Scripture,
it calls for a response as we ask ourselves “what
will we do with the truth pre-sented today?” The Christian life is marked by the offering
of one’s self to God to be shaped, empowered, directed
and changed by God and His Word. In worship, God presents us with the costly
self-offering of Jesus Christ. We are calmed by Christ and set free. In response to God’s
love in Jesus Christ we offer our lives, our gifts, our time,
our abilities and our material goods for God’s service, His
glory, and our ultimate good.
MORNING MESSAGEFOREVER FAITHFUL
GOOD SUCCESS...FULFILLEDConrad “Buster” Brown, Sr. Pastor
“7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:7-9
“6 Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left,7 that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them, 8 but you shall cling to the Lord your God just as you have done to this day…. 11 Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. 12 For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associ-ate with them and they with you,13 know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perishfromoffthisgoodgroundthattheLordyourGodhasgivenyou.”
Joshua 23:6-8, 11-13
“14 Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithful-ness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land youdwell.Butasformeandmyhouse,wewillservetheLord.”
