Success criteria:

Week 3 – English - Story premise
Like jabbering crows the journalists and photographers forced microphones, recording devices and cameras into our faces as we stepped off the plane at Abu Dhabi airport.
“How did it feel flying again?”
“Weren’t you scared?”
“How does it feel to have returned home?”
Question after question were bombarding in our direction and Jay and I stuck closer to each other’s side. Of course it wasn’t every day that two eleven year olds, from BSAK, survive a horrific plane crash and manage to stay alive for three days in the Amazon rain forest. We knew that we must have made the news but we weren’t expecting such a reception from journalists from all over the world. Jay glanced at me with a distinct look of disbelief, yet I knew it would be everyone else who would disbelieve us when we explained our incredible story of how we survived in the Amazon before being rescued.
Your task is to complete the short survival story by the end of Term Every fortnight you will need to complete a task sheet to finish your story. Use the success criteria and your personal targets to help you.
Week 3 – English - Task one story planning
Read the opening to the story carefully and pick out any key information about the story you will be writing.
Now plan your story using a planner of your choice; E.g. story mountain, story journey, story board.
Carefully consider:
1. The plane crash and the setting of where you land.2. Who you are with, who is Jay?3. What do you see, hear, smell and taste in the rainforest?4. How do you and Jay feel about your situation?5. How do you survive three days in the Amazon rainforest?6. How are you rescued?

Week 4 – Humanities /Geography
1. Choose a country in South America and make an A4 information poster about it. Include human and physical features of the relevant country.

Week 6
To celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science – 11th February we would like you to conduct your own independent research and produce an information poster about a female scientist. Choose carefully – don’t just go for the first few on the list! Include pictures of the person, what they invented/made/discovered/ how this has impacted on the world/biographical data. The more detailed the better! The posters will form a fabulous display in the Year 6 area – so your very best work is required. Week 7 – English - Task three character introduction
This week you will describe Jay and how you discovered that he was still alive.
Describe his physical appearance and begin to show the reader what his personality is like. Eg. Did he try to act brave and be courageous or is he easily scared?
Explain what you did together when you first met up in the Amazon rainforest?

Week 8 Humanities
Plan and write a 5 day travel itinerary for one of the countries in South America, include places of interest to visit etc. You need to persuade people to come and visit your country of choice.
OR
Find out/research about the history of the national dress of a South American country. Provide the information and a drawing in a fun and creative way.
OR
Research a national dish/food from one of the South American countries, make a dish to share with the class and be prepared to talk about the recipe and the history of the dish.
Week 9 –English - Task four story development
This week you will write about how you and Jay survived for 3 days together in the rainforest.
Where did you sleep? Did you build a shelter? What did you eat and drink? How did you stay safe? Were there any dangers? Were there any interesting or exciting events?

Week 10 – English - Task five final chapter
This week you will finish writing your story by writing about how you were rescued.
Did you alert anyone to rescue you? How did they know where you were? How did you feel about being rescued?

Week 11 English - Task six edit & review
Review and improve your story. Have you achieved your success criteria? What could you do even better?
Check your spelling and punctuation.
Does every sentence make sense?
Once you are happy with your story ask your parent to read it and suggest 2 things you could improve next time.

Week 12 English - Produce
Type up your story and make it into a book. Add illustrations or pictures throughout and front cover and a blub. These will be used
for display purposes next term – so make them fantastic!
