Teacher’s GuideIn this lesson, the student will learn:
How to say and form cardinal numbers Quantities: “There is” and “There are” with “How much” and “How many” Days, Months, Seasons Ordinal numbers
Assessments (with answer keys): Quiz 2.1 (Vocabulary List 2.1 – Cardinal Numbers and Quantities) Quiz 2.2 (Vocabulary List 2.2 – Days, Months, Seasons, and Ordinal Numbers) Test 2 (Vocabulary List 2.1 and 2.2) Project 2 (“Numbers” Project)
Notes: The goal of this lesson is to teach numbers and help students apply their “numbers” vocabulary in discussing the
calendar (days, months, and seasons). They will also learn ordinal numbers to help them express dates correctly. The vocabulary lists and notes have 3 copies: Teacher’s List, Spanish/English List, and English Only List. The
teacher may want to provide the translations, or he/she may want students to look up words using a dictionary or translator. If the teacher is bilingual, he/she may want to use the English Only List and fill in the sheet with the students.
“Sparkle” is an excellent game to help students learn spelling. It can be used as a review game at any point in the lesson. To play, have students stand up at their desks. Say a vocabulary word, and each student says one letter of the word. Once the word has been spelled, the next student says, “Sparkle,” and the next student sits down. Students also sit down if they misspell the word. This is a great game to learn the spellings of the ordinal and cardinal numbers, days, dates, and seasons.
In Quiz 2.2, students are asked to write all of the ordinal numbers 1-20 then ordinal numbers 30, 40, 50, etc. The last two questions ask students to write 92nd and 46th because this shows that they understand the pattern of ordinal numbers and how to form them after 21.
