Web Services hosted by the Kansas Biological Survey for the

Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism

Natural Resource Planner (NRP)

Southern Great Plains Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool (SGP CHAT)

Kansas Aquatic Resource Planner (KARP)

Service summary

All services designed in ArcGIS 10, and hosted on ArcSever 10.02

Running on an Adobe Flex platform 2.4 (2.5)

Manage web applications/tools in Django

Use GeoNetwork (v 2.6.4) for data portal

Sites receive aprox. 200 users per month

Natural Resource Planner

Launched in 2009 to serve natural resource/conservation data Been through several iterations and updates Wide range of statewide data sets available Used by: KDWPT for site assessment and permit review Local wind energy developers Out of state wind developers/consultants

Natural Resource Planner

Created with input from:

Transparent process

The Kansas Natural Resource Planner (NRP) was designed to be:

Southern Great Plains Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool

An assessment of lesser prairie-chicken habitat suitability across five states.

Category 1 (Irreplaceable) Category 2 (Limiting)

Category 3 (Significant) Category 4 (Unknown) Category 5 (Common)

Lesser Prairie Chicken Crucial Habitat

SGP CHAT web service provides users access to other data layers that may be useful for landscape and habitat assessment

Base data: State boundaries, County boundaries, Highways, Roads Natural Resource data: Lesser prairie- chicken range (current estimated occupied range) Lesser prairie- chicken historic range Managed areas (state parks, wildlife areas…) Vertical structures >= 50 feet (radio towers, wind turbines…) Whooping crane migration corridor Number of unique T/E species per county Land cover (from national GAP) Backgrounds: Aerial imagery, Streets, Topographic map

Final landscape level data summarized to 1-mile hexagons

Hexagons can be selected and a summary report generated
