Social media is the newest form of online marketing -‐ and for many small business owners such as plumbers, it's the most intimidating and underutilized. Social media is simply an amped-‐up form of word-‐of-‐mouth marketing, with some of the benefits of other forms of online marketing thrown in as a bonus. Social media marketing offers businesses the opportunity to go to where consumers are already "hanging out" and speak directly to them in a low-‐key, low-‐pressure way that makes customers comfortable. When done properly, social media posts are a way to win the interest and trust of customers -‐ and potential customers -‐ by providing useful information and special offers in a relaxed environment, while offering consumers a direct, immediate link right to you and your business. Social media posts are also a terrific way to let your community know that you care -‐ you can use your posts to share information about your community activities and local charity work. In addition, social media marketing is vital to optimizing the benefits of search engines. Search engines give a significant advantage to websites that update their social media pages regularly.
The best part? Social media is 100% FREE! To leverage the power of social media for your business, you simply start participating in the conversations on social media sites. To do this effectively, you need to increase the number of your social media friends, fans, and followers. You can use many of the same marketing techniques you use to collect email addresses for your newsletter -‐ encouraging online social media signups and asking satisfied customers to "opt-‐in" to your messages. Remember, too, social media doesn't only mean Facebook and Twitter. Your social media marketing strategy should also include online review sites such as Yelp and Angie's List. These online review sites are invaluable as a source of leads for contracting businesses. Despite the many advantages of social media, the vast majority of small to mid-‐size businesses don't have a social media presence. They worry that they lack the knowledge, time, and resources to use this exciting new marketing channel effectively. So, if you haven't already, consider setting up a Facebook page. Have each of your employees set up a business Facebook page and link your site to their Facebook page. Ask satisfied, loyal customers to become friends, fans, and followers of your business. Set up a Twitter account and "tweet" at least once a week. Even the busiest person has time to write 140 characters once a week! Encourage your loyal customers to visit online review sites (Yelp, Angie's List, etc.) and post positive reviews. If there are negative online reviews about your company, consider contacting those individuals and offering a discount on future services and/or ask how you can remedy their displeasure. Green Plumbers USA is glad to help and offer advice in your social media endeavors. Not a licensed Green Plumber? Join us today and together we can make a difference.
Colby and Dannielle Julian established Plumbing Medic Inc. in 2006. Colby’s skill as a master plumber and dream of owning and operating his own company, combined with Dannielle’s entrepreneurial spirit, business savvy, and passion for company operations have built Plumbing Medic Inc. into a successful and viable business. Together, they have formed their company on a solid foundation of honesty and integrity and credit these fundamentals for the continued success of Plumbing Medic Inc.
1. What prompted you to attend the Green Plumbers workshop?
In early spring 2014, Mr. and Mrs. Julian attended a Nexstar Network conference where they learned from plumbing industry leaders the extreme importance conservation practices will have to consumers of precious natural resources like water. It was stated in plain words that demand for water would outweigh supply; consequently, water rates will increase and consumers will be the ones to bear the burden. Following this conference the Julian’s felt they were undereducated in water conservation knowledge, practices and products. To learn more, service manager Mike Roberts attended the Green Plumbers education class in an effort to be at the forefront with customer education on green, money and resource saving practices.
2. Name one thing that inspired you from the workshop?
The Green Plumbers workshop showed me the importance of water conservation and how plumbers are on the front lines of educating the community about water sustainability.
3. What role do you see Plumbing Medic taking in your community within the realm of water conservation?
Plumbing Medic Inc. has already implemented a water conservation social media campaign as well as reached out to many local municipalities. An entire page has been added to our website with tips and municipality information for consumers. We have also partnered with Arizona Project WET sponsored through the University of Arizona. Plumbing Medic employees will volunteer time with Project WET to support their efforts of water conservation education. Project WET provides statewide community outreach programs to students, citizens and groups of all kinds on water conservation.
4. Would you recommend this workshop to other contractors? If so why?
Absolutely. This workshop is worth the time investment. If you are a plumbing contractor who intends to stay in business, you better know what's going on with water conservation laws, initiatives and be more knowledgeable than the consumer when they call. We believe the mission of Green Plumbers and other like-minded resource conservation groups will become more mainstream over the upcoming years. Out of necessity, many changes will be coming down the pipeline (pun intended) in regards to conservation laws, building codes, raw resources, materials and most importantly the wants and needs of our consumers. We are excited to be one the first full service residential and commercial Green Plumbers in the Greater Phoenix metro area. PAGE5
