Rewrite these sentences correctly.

1.Grown by the farmer, my younger brother ate the pieces of fruit.

2.Relaxing on the beach chair, the sun was too bright for me.

How can we correct them?

Misplaced Modifiers

• Both of those sentences contained misplaced modifiers…

So what are misplaced modifiers?

Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers

• A modifier is a word or phrase that describes another part of a sentence. It should be as close as possible to the word it modifies.

Dangling Modifiers

• A dangling modifier is a phrase that modifies a word not clearly stated in the sentence. Often these can be unintentionally humorous.

I chased the balloon running down the street.

I watched the lion with the binoculars.

I found my pencils looking through my desk.

Dancing in mud, we watched the pigs.

Traveling in Florida, their dog ran away.

Driving north, the trees were beautiful.

I served steaks to the men on the table.

Activity

• I will give you a strip with a dangling modifier. You are to create a picture that reflects the dangling modifier. You will also write the dangling modifier at the top of the page, and the corrected sentence at the bottom of the page. Write your name, class, and Misplaced Modifiers Activity on the back.
