Transcript of WaaaghGorbad

Battle of Black Fire Pass 1707Gorbad leads his entire Orc & Goblin horde tooverwhelm the Empire garrison that defends the pass.

To recreate this fight, use the Battle for the Passscenario (Warhammer rulebook page 146) – onlyallow the Empire side to place two Watchtowers (asper the Watchtower scenario in the rulebook on page150) in their deployment zone. The Greenskins shouldhave 50% more points and get the first turn.

Stunty Stomps 1706Gorbad's Waaagh!, now comprised of Orcs and NightGoblins fight many battles against the Dwarfs of theWorlds Edge Mountains.

This is really innumerable battles and sees Gorbad'sarmy take onboard loads of Night Goblins, who joinedthe Ironclaw Orcs out of fear of being crushed and alsofor a chance to 'give it to' the hated Stunties.

Battle for the Iron Rock 1705Gorbad leads Orcs only to capture rocky highland fortfrom opposing tribes. This is a relatively small-scaleaffair, featuring Gorbad's Orcs attacking a welldefended hill. Although the defence featured severalSpear Chuckas, Gorbad softened them up with a RokLobber before sending in his waves of Boyz.

Averheim 1707Gorbad's Waaagh!, larger than ever, besieges thiswalled Empire city. Many tribes of Forest Goblinsriding Giant Spiders emerged out of the forest to joinGorbad. Fight a siege, but Averheim starts the battlewith several holes already knocked in the walls (RokLobbers). Also, all spider-riders (includingArachnarok Spiders) can climb over the walls.

Slaughter on the Aver Down 1707Massive Orc & Goblin horde fights Empire armydominated by Knights Panther and Halflings.

The greenskins are all assembled now and theironrush slaughters the outnumbered Empire forces.Greenskins should enjoy a 2 to 1 advantage and beallowed to 'recycle' casualties – that is, re-use slainunits (but not characters, Monsters, or warmachines). The Empire gains a victory if they canhave any models on the table by the end of turn 6.

Nuln 1707-1712Gorbad's Waaagh! at the height of its powers usesartillery, boats and finally a floating bridge to launchwall assaults to take down Nuln. It is amasterminded assault, pulled off in the most difficultof positions. Nuln is not a city easy to take andGorbad levelled it.

This siege goes back and forth and ends whenGorbad builds a floating bridge out of boats andwreckages. The river is only crossable by boats or thespecially built bridge.

The Moot 1707This is not really a battle, but more like targetpractice. Hold a shooting contest to see which RockLobber can splat the most Halflings. Try sinking theirmakeshift rafts as they attempt to escape by floatingdown the river Aver.

Battle of Grunberg 1707-1712Gorbad heads north and is met by a small but eliteEmpire army, composed of Reiksguard, KnightsPanther, and Knights of the Blazing Sun under theElector Count of Wissenland. Rather than wait forhis whole army to reunite, Gorbad forges aheadwith an all-cavalry force. Gorbad sustains aninjury (a Runefang to the chest) but is victorious, ripping the arm off of an Elector Count.

One of the most exciting of battles, both sides arecomposed of mounted troops, with only the oddinfantry unit or monster joining the outriding forces.

The Siege of Altdorf 1707-1712Gorbad's Waaagh! assaults Altdorf, but the attacklacks any of Gorbad's previous cunning. From nowon Gorbad cannot use his Da Great Leader ruleand his Inspiring Presence and Hold Your Groundrange is reduced from 18" to the standard 12".Gorbad tries massed Rock Lobbers, then a massedflight of Wyverns but nothing works. As the siegegrinds on, many greenskin tribes drift away, tiredof the growing defeats. Eventually the siege is lifted.

Probably better broken down into component battlesrather than a single siege. Wyverns versus theground troops, assaults upon main gates, duelsbetween cannons and Rok Lobbers or the shootinggalleries that the attacking greenskins presentedwhen they foolishly launched frontal assault afterfrontal assault through the mire.

Battle of Blood Peak 1712Much reduced, the Orcs under Gorbad are attackedjust south of Black Fire Pass by the revenge-mindedDwarfs of Karaz-a-Karak. Seeking retribution forthe slaughter and desecrations Gorbad inflicted uponthem, the Dwarfs surround the Orcs in an evertightening circle. Never before had Morglor theMangler been so wielded, hacking down any Dwarfwho approached. yet it is unknown what befell ofGorbad, for it is said that a handful of Orcs foughtout of the massacre and fled into the night. Perhaps hesurvived or maybe he was finally brought low by theDwarfs, but whatever the truth, none now know.

The Dwarfs should encircle the Orcs and have a50% points advantage.

Out Come the Jackals 1707-1712The Waaagh! is broken and only the IronclawOrcs and the Broken Tooth Orcs remain loyal toGorbad. They are beset by other greenskin tribes, notably the Wolf Riders of Bloody Fang tribe, theRed Eye Night Goblins, and Orcs of theSkullhacker tribe.

Gorbad's dwindling armies are ambushed andtheir baggage (mostly spoils) is cut out from them.

The Razing of Solland 1707-1712Gorbad divides his forces into seven separate armiesand sends them to spread terror across the length andbreadth of Solland and Wissenland.

The Raze and Ruin scenario in the Warhammerrulebook (page 398) will work wonders here. Allowthe greenskins a 25% points advantage.

Battle of Solland's Crown 1707-1712The Elector Counts of Solland and Wissenlandmount a hopeless counterattack, hoping to catchGorbad's army as it crosses the River Aver. Italmost works and many Orcs die in the crossing, but they establish a foothold on the far bank just asan all cavalry army (Wolf Riders and Boar Boyz)arrives to flank the Empire forces. The disciplinedretreat turns to slaughter and Count Eldred (theElector Count of Solland) is slain by Gorbad andhis crown and Runefang taken.

This will work well using the River of Death. Thegreenskins gain +25% of their starting force with aflanking army of Wolf Riders and Spider Riders. The Empire has not one, but two Elector Counts.

Yet More Razing 1707-1712Inspired by his new crown and angered at the riverambush, Gorbad orders yet more razing until thesmoke of Solland's burning can be seen from thepeaks of Karaz-a-Karak

WAAAGH! GORBADGorbad Ironclaw was the most famous of all OrcWarbosses and lead what is arguably the mostimpressive of all Waaaghs!

Gorbad’s Waaagh! covered much territory and manydifferent enemies. It would be an ambitious undertaking torecreate the entire great green crusade, but it is eminentlypossible to refight some of the key battles. Here then is ourtake on what those battles were and how you can go aboutfighting them for yourselves.

Using Gorbad: Gorbad rides a warboar and wields the axe,Morglor the Mangler. A powerhouse in close combat, whatreally makes him unique amongst Orcdom are histremendous leadership skills. Gorbad is Leadership 10, hasan 18" Inspiring Presence range and counts as a BattleStandard with an 18" range as well. If this wasn’t enough,Gorbad allows you to upgrade any number of Orc Boyz orBoar Boyz units into Big ’Uns, potentially meaning yourentire force could be made up of WS 4, Strength 4 Orcs!
