The United Awareness Committee,USA and Sri Guru Ravidass Sabha,Sacramento celebrated 124th BirthAnniversary of Babasaheb Dr. B.R.Ambedkar in Sri Guru Ravidass Tem-ple, Rio Linda California on SundayApril 19, 2015 with great enthusiasmand dedication. The joint efforts ofboth the Managing Committees madeit reach sublime heights of a magnifi-cent success.

The most striking part of thishistoric event was that it was gracedby prominent representatives of theCalifornia State Government withtheir presence, namely Mr. JimCooper - Assemblyman (District 9 -CA), Mr. Keaton Riley (Field represen-tative of Congressman Dr. Ami Bera -District 7, CA), Mrs. Bobby SinghAllen (President Elk Grove School Dis-trict, CA) and Mr. Mikey Hothi (FieldRepresentative of Mr. Jim Cooper, As-semblyman). They all paid theirglowing tributes and adored the roleand efforts of Dr. Ambedkar for hisunparalleled contributions and lifelong struggle for social justice for un-privileged and neglected segments of

Indian society. Dr. Ambedkar washighly acclaimed as a great pioneerand a natural born civil rights leader.All the representatives from the StateGovernment were honored as distin-guished guests of honor and werehonored with Saropas, the highesthonor in the tenets of our religion. Allthe guest speakers were very con-spicuous in their approach and em-phasis to focus on what wascommon in the culture of both thecountries.

The following prominentmembers of the community were alsoawarded with commendation certifi-cates by Mr. Jim Cooper - Assembly-man (District 9 - CA) on behalf of theState Government in recognition oftheir participation at the Sri GuruRavidass Temple and for their distin-guished services in Ravidassia Com-munity and extending esteem,gratitude, heartiest congratulationsand best wishes on behalf of the peo-ple of the great State of California.

Balley who had therare opportunity of meeting Dr.Ambedkar in person in 1955 and1956 in New Delhi drew public atten-tion to the versatile genius and pene-trating intellect of Babasaheb asChairman of the drafting committeeof Indian Constitution and his out-standing contributions in the field ofeconomic structure, social justice andas builder of the modern India.

Dr. Harmesh Kumar PhD andan eminent psychologist focused onBabasaheb's education in USA,which had its reflections of liberty,equality, and fraternity in India's con-stitutional structure. He likened Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. to Dr. Ambed-kar on issues of social discriminationand segregation.

Mr. Prem Kumar Chumber of“Ambedkar Times” addressed the au-dience with his journalistic and pro-fessional approach and the role of

Doaba” are serving the people of Punjab living notonly in the USA but many other countries also. Italso a matter of gratification that these publica-tions dedicated to the worthy causes of theweaker sections of the society with deference tothe mission and philosophy of their leaders Dr.B.R. Ambedkar, Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia andBabu Kanshi Ram.

Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated at Ambedkar Bhawan JalandharJalandhar- Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, April 14,is celebrated in Jalandhar every year. But this year,the 125th year, was special and was observed withgreat enthusiasm by the followers of the greatleader. It was clearly evident that the acceptabilityof Dr. Ambedkar is not only increasing over the re-cent years but he is be-coming the icon of theIndian society at large. Allpolitical and social forcesare falling on each other toown the legacy of Dr.Ambedkar. It is a matter ofgratification.

On April 13, manypolitical and social outfitsjoined together and con-ducted a “Chetna Yatra” inthe afternoon. It was a big show led by Chief Par-liamentary Secretary Avinash Chander. On April 14,there was yet another ‘Chetna March” whichstarted from BootanMandi, the place visited andadorned by Dr. Ambedkar in October, 1951. Thevolunteers of SamtaSainik Dal, young boys andgirls, joined the Yatra at Ambedkar Bhawan andprovided colour to the event. The statue of Dr.Ambedkar at Ambedkar Chowk on Nakodar Roadwas decked with flowers. There was an unendingqueue to garland the bust of the leader and pay

their respect. The Langars (community kitchens)were arranged at many locations on the route ofthe Yatra. Like the past years, there was a big pub-lic meeting, arranged by Ambedkar Mission Soci-ety, to pay tributes to the revered leader atAmbedkar Bhawan. Dr. Ajit Singh Chahal, Head of

the Law Faculty of Kuruk-shetra University was thelead speaker at the function.He spoke with convictionand gave reasons as to whyDr. Ambedkar was the great-est leader of India. The edi-tor of BheemPatrika and astaunch Ambedkarite LahoriRam Balley and President ofAmbedkar Mission Society,Dr. TarsemSagar also spoke

and paid glowing tributes to Babasaheb. JagtarWar-ianvi Musical Group regaled the audience with itsmissionary compositions on the life and philosophyof Dr. Ambedkar. Late in the evening of April 14,there was a huge public meeting at BootanMandi,in front of the house of Seth Kishan Dass whereDr. Ambedkar stayed in October, 1951, which wasaddressed by many political and social leaders likeCPS Avinash Chander of Akali Dal and Prem Shantof BSP. These leaders remembered the leader andpaid befitting tributes.
