VISUAL SCHEDULES: Kids

VISUAL SCHEDULES WORK BEST WHEN

CUSTOMIZED TO

MEET THE NEEDS OF A SPECIFIC CHILD

OR A SPECIFIC CLASSROOM.

Select one or any combination of options for generating visual schedule cards:

› Copy, cut apart, and laminate the visual schedule cards in this document.

› Purchase a commercial software program at www.mayer-johnson.com or www.do2learn.com.

› Take photographs of often-scheduled activities in your own classroom, such as a child working on an activity at a table, children sitting in a group listening to the teacher, a child eating a snack, children praying, children playing instruments, a child cleaning up, a child greeting parents at the door, and so on.

Laminating whichever photos or symbols you choose

to use will make them more durable

for repeated use. Attach a Velcro®

square to the back of each picture. Use the

attached schedule charts, a Velcro strip,

or a sturdy 3-ring binder.

Use the pictures or symbols to share with children the activities you have planned for a session. Remove a card from the

display when an activity or task has been completed.

Visual schedules are a classroom tool to give children cues about the sequence of activities during any given period of time. At church, a visual schedule can add order to a busy routine and minimize distractions during transition times because children know what to expect.
