Honest John casts doubt on VW fuel figures

It is not just vehicle emissions data that might leave drivers feeling less confident in Volkswagen cars: Changing experiences of fuel consumption in the past 10 years may also leave cause for concern.

The motoring enthusiast’s website HonestJohn.co.uk encourages drivers to share experiences of car ownership, including how the fuel consumption of their vehicles has fared compared to official manufacturer data.

According to user data, drivers of the 2004 (Mark V) model Golfs have experienced fuel consumption broadly on a par with the official figures. Although real world fuel consumption of the range appears to have improved a little in newer models, drivers of the 2013 (Mark VII) range have experienced much lower levels of fuel efficiency than those promised by the official figures.
