Lesson 2 : STANDING TALL and LYING LOW

There are a numbers of factors which affect the stability of an object.

1. The base area.> The bigger the base area, the more stable the object is.

2. Height> The higher the object, the less stable it is.

3. The materials used.> Example of materials used for construction are concrete, wood, steel and plastic.

BASE AREA

A bottle in an upright position has a bigger base area. It is therefore more stable than a bottle in

an upside down position.

A low stool is more stable than a high stool

Concrete is very strong and can be formed into any shape

Wood does not break easily

Steel is the strongest material available

Plastic can be strecthed and pulled
