Processing ResearchResponsible Leyre Azpilicueta Fernández de las Heras ProjectName Vehicular Millimeter Wave Communications: Opportunities and
Challenges Description The main goal of this project is to explore the opportunities and
challenges in vehicular millimeter wave communications to integrate multiple users, multiple vehicles, multiple things and multiple networks, to provide at all times the best connected communication capability in vehicular communications. Connected vehicles will need gigabit per second data rates, which can be achieved only in the millimeter wave (mmWave) band. However, there are still several issues to research and to solve potential problems of wireless communications in this type of environments. It becomes essential, in the first place, to determine the electromagnetic behaviour of the radio channel in V2X communications, which is characterized by being highly time-varying and it is described through a non-stationary fading process. The high velocities of the transmitter and receiver, due to the fast movement of vehicles, and the large number of scattering objects, as well as the massive volume of vehicles in the main roads or in rush hours in large cities, make the prediction of the propagation characteristics of the radio waves not an easy task. In this project, the mmWave band will be assessed and characterized for different V2X communication environments, which will give new opportunities and benefits for the next generation vehicular communications.

Roberto Parra Saldivar ProjectName Evaluation of the feasibility of the use of an agroindustrial residue
to obtain alpha-pinene with potential application as organic extraction solvent
Description A priority demand locally and globally is the use of agro-industrial waste to meet ecological and economic problems For several years, the industry is focused on the development of more environmentally friendly techniques in which the use of toxic products and emissions into the environment is reduced. In these green processes using sample preparation methods that are environmentally sustainable and involving the use of less polluting solvents also it promotes. Currently the most hexane solvent is used for extraction of oils and fats. Hexane is on the list of hazardous solvents to be highly detrimental to health as being irritating, can cause disorder in the central nervous system and fertility problems. The aim is to use of sawing waste pine wood as Pinene source and the possibility of its use as a substitute for hexane extraction of oils is studied.
Tasks/Responsibilities • Standardizing the extraction of alpha-pinene residue of agroindustrial by the technique of stripping steam.
• Characterization of the extract obtained from an agro-industrial waste, using the technique of gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer and
infrared spectrophotometry.
• Determining efficiency in extraction, using the technique of gas chromatography with flame ionization detector.

HUMBERTO AGUAYO ProjectName Lean Intelligent Innovation Description In recent time the failures in innovations have increased
drastically. In different industrial branches the number of recalls is causing huge loses to companies and customer. I.e. recently such products as Samsung Galaxy Notes 7 and Takata Airbags have become notorious. Several USA federal agencies have joined together to create www.recalls.gov for providing information for recalls. The main goal of the project is to comparatively analyze failed innovations for identifying the areas of opportunity for avoiding those failures. The research should also look for existing tools and methods for helping in:
• How might the innovation change or disrupt current markets?
• Aligning potential innovation with the company’s business strategy
• How does the proposed innovation generate value for the customer?
• What would be the impact of the innovation on the current business?
• How long will it take for the new concept to be realized and impact the business
• Avoiding the risk of potential recalls.
