Turkish weddings vs. Czech weddings

Question 1: What are typical rituals during a wedding?

• Turkish: Before the ''Day D'' the groom and the bride are alone with their families and this evening is quite sad.

• Czech: Before the ''Day D'' the groom and the bride usually have separate stag parties with their friends. On the wedding day we break some plate because this ritual brings luck.

Question 2: Have you some reception after the ceremony?

• Turkish: Not really (just some Kebab …), but the evening before this ceremony we eat a lot of food. For example: ..

• Czech: Yes, we have much food. For example: meat ball soup (knedlíčková), vegetable creamy sauce with beef meat and dumplings (svíčková), ham rolls as a starter and a big wedding cake as a dessert … etc.

Question 3: How many people can be at the ceremony?

Turkish: At Turkish wedding there can usually be about 200-900 people.Czech: Czech weddings are usually smaller, around 50-200 people.

Question 4: What do grooms and brides wear?

• Turkish: Women wear scarfs on their heads and men wear suits like in Europe.

• Czech: Women wear long white dresses with a veil and men wear black suits or tuxedos.

Question 5: Where is this ceremony held and how does it take?

• Turkish: They are married at a town hall. The ceremony is very short.

• Czech: We usually get married in a church but more often at a town hall.

It takes almost one day .

Question 6: Which presents do newlyweds usually receive?

• Turkish: At ceremony they get all kinds of folk gifts or gold.

• Czech: We usually give some useful things to a new flat or a house. E.g.:

plates, glasses, cuttlery,….

Question 7: Do the newlyweds go for honeymoon?

• Turkish: No

• Czech: Yes. Almost allways. Any place by the sea is the most popular destination and some people stay in the country.

Finaly question 9: Have the newlyweds a bridecake?

• Turkish: No and yes. They have a very big plastic bridecake! (it‘s very interesting)

• Czech: Yes, we have a big bridecake.
