Title IX and the UAS Community

All members of the university community, guests and visitors have a right to be free from sexual misconduct.

Sexual misconduct includes but is not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence.

• Title IX initially emphasized equity in admissions,

financial aid and athletics.

• Sexual misconduct was included in Title IX in

1992.

• 2011: Dear Colleague Letter

• In 2014, the federal government reauthorized

the Violence Against Women Act.

• Title IX Response Team

• Training to students, faculty and staff.

• Two licensed, professional counselors

• Local partnerships with JPD, Bartlett Hospital, the

AWARE Shelter, Council on Domestic Violence and

Sexual Assault.

• Cooperation with UAF, UAA and Statewide offices.
