FESTIVAL HOT TOPICS
Each year, the Festival’s Advisory Council develops the weekend’s
programming and events. While many topics are covered during
the more than 80 learning experiences, Tasting Tents, dinners, and
events each year, a handful of topics seem to be front-of-mind
across the Council. This year’s “hot topics” include:
➢ Breakfast – Start Your Day the Southern Way: From buttermilk
biscuits to a certain house of waffles, Southerners know how to
make the most of the day’s first meal, which often incorporate
international flavors and techniques.
➢ Street Foods – Gas Station Cuisine and Side-of-the-Road
Delights: Pull on over for fast, delicious snacks and meals chock
full of nostalgia and discover how the traditions of street food from
Southern regions around the world have shaped our food culture.
➢
Ingredient Spotlight Series: Uncomplicated, unprocessed,
uniquely special, there is a bounty of Southern ingredients that
exemplify the essence of Southern cuisine and our region’s history,
including:
• Crab Fat
• Peanuts
• Black Peppercorns
• Alligator
• Swamp Cabbage

A SOUTHERN RECKONING: Riffs on Returning Festival Favorites
Some Festival events were so popular we’re serving them up again…
but with a twist.
Rediscover Destination Delicious at The Stave Room on Thursday, June 1
Presented by The Local Palate
Eat and drink through our favorite Southern destinations on this delicious
epicurean-inspired road trip featuring chef creations, luscious libations,
live music, and newly added interactive pit-stops throughout the journey.
Connoisseur Dinner Series
The Connoisseur Dinner Series, curated by the Lee Bros., takes a more
rustic and hands-on approach to our previous seated dinner concepts:
• Dining by Personality
Thursday, June 1
Hot, spicy, salty, sweet, Bourbon or Bordeaux. Take the quiz and
enjoy a menu based on your personality.
• The Finger Bowl Chronicles
Friday, June 2
Embark on this culinary adventure beyond the place setting and
explore the communal, eat-with-your-hands traditions that
define Southern eating around the globe.
• Backwoods Bacchanal
Saturday, June 3
Trek into the woods for an intimate, multi-course, open-fire feast
with casual pass-the-plate and pass-the-bottle interactions with
chefs, beverage pros and grilling masters. The night will be
complete with storytelling and live music.

Atlanta Food & Wine Festival Masterclasses
From the fervent novice to the well-seasoned food and drink devotee,
these in-depth, two-hour seminars create the opportunity to take a deeper
look into a variety of topics:
• Rare Breeds: Part II
Friday, June 2
It’s time for part two of our 2016 bourbon and country ham class. Perfect
for the seekers of the hard-to-find, this intimate Masterclass will explore
rare and limited-quantity bourbons, while pairing them with equally
special country hams with award-winning chef Sean Brock as the host
and bourbon distillers Drew Kulsveen, Willett Family Estate single barrel
bourbon, and Preston Van Winkle, Old Rip Van Winkle.
• 82 Turns 35
Saturday, June 3
Exalted by many in the wine industry as the greatest vintage of
modern times, the famous 1982 Bordeaux vintage turns 35 this
year. These historic and now rare wines were not just considered
“great” but were seen as the beginning of the modern age of wine,
the end of an old era. During this intimate Masterclass, guests will
have the opportunity to taste from a rare selection of 1982 Premiere
Cru Bordeaux wines with impeccable provenance: Chateau Lafite
Rothschild, Chateau Latour, and Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
• In the RAW: Convergence of Food, Style & Southern Hospitality
Saturday, June 3
Artist and author William Morris once said, “have nothing in your houses
that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” Imagine
removing all of the distraction from a delicious meal or a beautifully
set table, and focusing solely on the simple – raw – elements that go
into them, from the vegetables on the plate, to the clay vessel they are
served on, to the handstitched apron you are wearing. This happy hour
Masterclass will provide an in-depth look into the materials that inspire
you to entertain, enjoy and imbibe, in the raw.

SOUTHERN GUMPTION: Exciting 2017 Program Additions Include
Louisiana Lunch – Friday, June 2
Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler (lay-ZEH leh BAWN taw ROO-leh) … Let the
Good Times Roll as we celebrate the food and drinks of The Creole State,
followed by a traditional Second Line.
Friday – AND – Saturday Night Bites – June 2 & June 3
Let’s beat the heat and have more fun at our all-you-can-eat-and-drink
nighttime Tasting Tent sessions.
Designer Diner – Sunday, June 4
Sunday Brunch will take on a new vibe and a new aesthetic as AF&WF
partners with Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) for a Designer Diner
themed event. Brunch, the most delicious meal in America, has its own
flavor in the South with traditional comfort foods and international twists.
From the greasy spoon favorites to fine dining, brunch will stand out in
designer-built vignettes at ADAC.
