II. The Shepherd King
2 Samuel 5:1-5You will be the shepherd of my peopleYou will be Israel’s leader
III. Shepherd/King Jesus
In David we have a picture of the Higher Story
Striking the head of the giant – Genesis 3:15 – the offspring of the woman will strike your head
Goliath – not unlike the devil1 Peter 5:8 – prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour
1 Samuel 17:34-36 – when a lion comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I club it to death. I will do the same to Goliath
1 Peter 2:25 (NLT) 25 Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
Ephesians 2:4-6 (NLT) 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5
that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT) 20 Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— 21 may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.
