Principal’s Message Kinder Social Story
Mrs Wood, our Learning and Support Teacher has created a social story to
help our 2019 Kinders transition into primary school. The file has been
uploaded to a share drive so parents can access it from home and talk about
the story with their child. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oykTd504ltR9dbP9gxFaZrd0l5OdB9Hp/view?

Parent helpers at disco
A big thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to help out with the
Term 4 disco. Students had a great time on the night and thoroughly enjoyed
dancing and eating the food provided by the P&C. Students on buses
At times students travelling on buses are not tapping on and off with their
Opal cards. It is very important that students do this each trip so the bus
company has accurate data on how many students are using the buses to
travel to and from school. We would appreciate it if parents could also
remind their children to use their Opal card every time they use the bus. Bring Your Own Device
Teachers continue to engage in professional learning regarding integrating
technology into the curriculum and it will continue to be a focus in 2019. This
week at our staff meeting, all staff indicated that they would be including
BYOD in their teaching and learning programs in 2019. This means that all
students will have the opportunity to bring an iPad from home to support
their learning. More information on exactly which days for each class will be
given to parents early next year. Students who do not bring their own device
will have access to school iPads. Reports
Semester 2 reports will be sent home with students tomorrow so it is
important for parents to ask their child for the report when they see them
after school. Copies for families that require two copies will be sent home
early next week. P&C
Many thanks to the P&C who, after last night’s meeting, have undertaken to
fund six IWBs for classrooms, airplay for classrooms, air conditioning
maintenance and a donation to the Year 6 Farewell.

The movie is rated PG and tells the story of the Grinch and his loyal dog, Max, who live a solitary existence
inside a cave on Mount Crumpet. His main source of aggravation comes during Christmas time when his
neighbours in Whoville celebrate the holidays with a bang. When the Whos decide to make Christmas bigger
and brighter, the disgruntled Grinch realises there is one way to gain peace and quiet. With help from Max,
the green grump hatches a scheme to pose as Santa Claus, steal Christmas and silence the Whos’ holiday cheer
once and for all.

2019 SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Students going into Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (in 2019) only, and those going into Year 2 (in 2019) and turning 8 years of age during 2019 who can swim 50 metres unassisted.
On Friday 15 February 2019, our school swimming carnival will be held at Engadine Swimming Pool.
Students will need to be at school by 8.30am to ensure their names are marked off class rolls before boarding
buses. The total cost for bus and entry into the pool will be $14.00.
Students must apply a minimum 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen to exposed skin before coming
to school and reapply it during the day as directed by the manufacturer. Students also need to bring a hat, T-
shirt, something to sit on, their lunch and a drink. Plenty of water is essential, particularly if the day is hot.
They may also like to bring a book or quiet games such as cards to play with. Please note electronic devices
such as Game Boys, iPods and mobile phones are not to be brought to the carnival. Parents are most welcome
to attend as spectators, paying an entry fee, but should enter the pool either before or after the arrival of
our students.
Please ensure asthmatic students bring sufficient medication for the day. Students are expected to sit in
their allocated house areas not with their parents. The canteen will be available for the purchase of items and
we have hired the small pool to allow children to participate in novelty events.
STUDENTS MAY WEAR THEIR HOUSE SHIRT OR SPORTS UNIFORM TO AND FROM THE POOL. House colours are:
Sapphire Blue Ruby Red Emerald Green Diamond White
Please do not bring crepe paper or streamers to the pool as the dye comes out and pool management does
not allow them to be used.
Please note that due to time restraints imposed on us by the bus company and to be in line with the way Zone
and Area Carnivals are conducted, the Swimming Carnival will have timed finals in the following events:
Boy/Girl 100m Freestyle
Boy/Girl Breaststroke
Boy/Girl Backstroke
Boy/Girl Butterfly
Boy/Girl 200m Medley
Students competing in the medley events must submit times before Monday 4 February 2019 to the school
office. The seven fastest competitors will swim in this event.
Please complete the swimming competency survey. It is imperative that your child’s swimming ability is
accurately conveyed to us. All students will need to wear coloured bands to help identify them whilst
they are in the water.
TIMEKEEPING ASSISTANCE I am willing to assist with timekeeping.
