A Summary of the Plot
• An ancient Ring was lost but was found.
• In a twist of fate, It had fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Frodo Baggins.
• Gandalf the Gray found out that it was indeed the One Ring made by the Dark Lord Sauron and Frodo was sent off to destroy the Ring.
Plot Continued
• Frodo leaves the Shire but he is accompanied by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise.
• Frodo and his friends must battle through snow, darkness, rivers, forests and millions of orcs.
• This is the beginning of The Lord of the Rings trilogy .
The Conflict and the Resolution
• Conflict: Frodo must battle through orcs and resist the power of the One Ring long enough to destroy it in Mt. Doom.
• Resolution: The Fellowship of the Ring is part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and therefore the resolution is stated in the last book.

• Tolkien used flashback the most in this novel to retell the forging of the Rings of Power.

Background Info. About the Author.
• Tolkien was born on 1896 in Bloemfontein South Africa.
• He was a major scholar of the English language, specializing in old and middle English.
• He wrote a number of stories including most famously The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

• In the 1960s he was taken up by members of the nascent “counter—culture” mostly because of his concern with environmental issues.
• He died on1973 and was buried with his wife Edith.
Opinion
This book is one of my top favorite books because It held my attention all the way through the book. I also thought that the way the book was written and how the plot was put together made it a fantastic book to read.
