The Dynamic Holy Spirit

The Dynamic Holy Spiritdunamis: (miraculous) power, might, strength

Who is the Holy Spirit?

He is God• Omniscient (all knowing)

– “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, … will teach you all things…” John 14:26

• Omnipresent (everywhere present)– “Where can I go from your Spirit?...” Ps 139:7-8

• Omnipotent (all powerful)– “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the

Most High will overshadow you.” Luke 1:35

He is God

Father Son

Spirit

He is a Person• Mind

– “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit…” Romans 8:27

• Will– “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, … just as

he determines.” 1 Cor 12:11

• Emotions– “…by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit…”

Romans 15:30

The Spirit Will ComeI will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you – the Spirit of truth… I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high

Luke 24v49

The Spirit and the DisciplesAt Pentecost the disciples were all filled with the Spirit

Right to this day God has promised to give his Holy Spirit to every Christian

Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And

you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit This promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off

– for all whom the Lord our God will call

We live in the age of the Spirit. God has promised to give His Spirit

to every Christian(Acts 2:38-39)

How will I know He is with me?

5 Evidences• Rise of Faith• Overflow of Peace and Joy• New Boldness• Speaking in Tongues• Gifts and Graces Flow

What is the Gift of Tongues?• A form of prayer (1 Cor. 14:2)

• Builds up the individual (1 Cor. 14:4a)

• Transcends the language barrier (1 Cor. 14:14)

• Speaker in full control

The GiftsThere are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other …….. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

The FruitBut the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no lawGalatians 5:22-23

Questions on Tables• How dynamic would you say your relationship

with the Holy Spirit has been up until now?• God is all knowing, all powerful and everywhere

present. Which of those 3 attributes do you find most encouraging and why?

• Of the fruit of the Spirit, in which aspect would you like to have an immediate upgrade?

What does it mean to continually walk with the Holy Spirit?

Spirit, Soul and Body“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

(1 Thess. 5:23)

How do I daily walk in the Spirit?

1: Nurture Your Spirit LifeWord• Your word is a lamp to guide my

feet and a light for my path. • LORD, accept my offering of

praise, and teach me your regulations.

• Your laws are my treasure;they are my heart’s delight. I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end.

From Psalm 119

1: Nurture Your Spirit Life• Word• Praise and Worship

1: Nurture Your Spirit Life• Word• Praise and worship• Prayer

Three things that can stop us walking in the

Spirit:-

1. Distractions

2. Obstacles

3. Direct assaults

2: Overcome Obstacles

Being immersed in God’s Spirit

Immersed = BaptisedActs 8:14-17: ‘When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptised into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.'

• Thirst after God• Ask God• Co-operate with

the Spirit• Receive by faith• Step out in

boldness

I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:9-13 ESV)

A Prayer• “Heavenly Father, I am a believer. I am Your child and You are my

Father. Jesus is my Lord. I believe with all my heart that Your Word is true.

• “Your Word says if I will ask, I will receive the Holy Spirit. So in the Name of Jesus Christ, my Lord, I am asking You to fill me to overflowing with Your precious Holy Spirit. Jesus, baptise me in the Holy Spirit.

• “Because of Your Word, I believe that I now receive and I thank You for it. I believe the Holy Spirit is within me and, by faith, I accept it.

• “Now, Holy Spirit, rise up within me as I praise God. I fully expect to speak with other tongues, as You give me the utterance.”
