Editor’s Letter...
Anyone for a mince pie? Or are
you all full up? I hope
Christmas Day went without a
hitch! However, according to
all the big Supermarkets
Christmas TV adverts this
year, that’s almost an
impossibility!
I was late to learn this new trick but I have
banked it for next year, book your online
shopping slot well in advance by ordering a
minimum order then amend before the
delivery date! I feel liberated, no more
rushing through those packed aisles for me.
What ever you have planned to celebrate
New Year, I hope you have a good one,
and all the very best wishes for 2013.
The deadline for the February issue for
advertising and articles is Wednesday 16th
January. The February Arrow will be
delivered from Friday 25th January 2013!
Happy New Year

Campaigners for lower speed
limits near schools have
launched a petition.
Caroline Flint joined councillors and par-
ents at Edlington Hill Top Primary School
to launch the campaign.
Caroline said: “The response from parents
today was incredibly positive. The worry
about safety was widespread – one parent
even described how she was knocked
over. At Edlington Hill Top lorries and
cars come over the brow of the hill and are
at the school before you know it. One
parent talked about how difficult it is to
cross when the crossing attendant isn’t
there because of the speed of vehicles.
“So far over 30 schools and half of the par-
ish councils in this constituency support
reducing speed limits. I hope this petition
is promoted widely and spurs the Council
into doing something to improve road
safety near schools. Action by Doncaster
Council is long overdue.”
Copies of the petition have been sent to
every school. For more information on the
Speed Limit campaign or to sign the peti-
tion online go to carolineflintdonval-
ley.com. Copy of the petition can be
downloaded from the site.
PHOTO: 20mph Now! Caroline Flint and
Edlington & Warmsworth councillors joined
parents to demand action over speed limits.

The weather was kind and a
good number of all ages came
to St Mary’s Christmas Fayre
on 24th November 2012.
The grotto was as lovely as ever and
thrilled a good number of children. There
were new games to play, superb cakes and
treats, raffles, tombola, lunches and snacks;
in fact plenty for all!
£3200 was raised and, despite the
economic situation, this was even more
than the good result last year! A big thank
you to all who came and to those who
helped organise and run the event. Money
will go to the Church Roof Appeal as work
is still on-going.

Warmsworth WI is now open.
We meet at Warmsworth Community
Centre on the first Thursday of each
month 7-9 pm. New members are always
welcome.
A Jigsaw Puzzle Library is held in
the Stable Room, St. Mary’s Church on the
2nd Tuesday of each month and has been
running since September by June Spencer
and myself and has created quite a lot of
interest. We have over 200 jigsaws which
we hire out for £1 each and to be returned
the following month. Tea, coffee and cakes
are served for £1 and many folk come
along for a browse round and to enjoy the
company. All monies raised is to be
donated to St Mary’s Church Roof Appeal.
Here are the dates we are open:
Tuesday 8 January, 12 February, 12 March,
9 April onwards. 10 – 12 noon.
June and I also organise the Parish
Luncheon Club held at the Newton
Arms on the last Thursday of the month.
This was a new venture started in January
this year expecting around 20 folk but 37
turned up and each month numbers have
increased to 45/50 and it is a huge success!
It is surprising the comments we hear from
people –the enjoyment of sharing a meal
with many new friends – particularly those
living on their own.
The dates for the lunch are as follows:
Meet at the Newton 12 for 12.30 and
bookings are made in advance by
telephoning either June 785759 or myself
782776.
Thursday 31 January, 28 February, 28
March, 25 April and thereon.
Both these events are part of our “Out
Reach in the Community”. Non-profit
making and purely run on a voluntary basis.
Everyone is welcome.

WARMSWORTH
CRICKET
CLUB
To start this month’s update, I would just like to wish everyone a
very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year, from
everyone associated with Warmsworth Cricket Club.
Christmas is a busy time for everyone and that is no different for us, with plans
being put into place to ensure that the Christmas celebrations go off with a bang!
There is plenty to look forward too, with the children’s Christmas party just
around the corner and the school disco planned for New Year’s Eve.
We are always looking for new members, both playing and social, so if you are at
a loose end over the festive season, or fancy a quiet pint one night, pop down and
give our club a try. Reasonable prices, live football being shown and a warm and
comfortable setting, what more could you want!
Onto cricketing matters, and the Indoor
League have reached their break in the
season, and don’t have a game now till
early January. The teams form has been
up and down throughout and the lads
have a win record of just fewer than
50%, not a bad effort from a young team
competing in a competitive league. Keep
up the good work in the New Year
chaps.
Just as a final point, we would like to
welcome our new groundsman Doug
Swann to the club. Doug has been
working on sports pitches for many
years and we are sure he will do a great
job over the coming seasons at
Warmsworth Cricket Club.
