Main Frame:The main frame is of box constructionand ample proportion to ensure a rigidmachine fiee from vibration.
Conveyor:An endless belt of specially reinforcedrubber covered canvas passes roundtwo rollers cárried on side plates whichextend from either end of the mainframe. One roller serves to drive theconveyor band, the other is horizon-tally adjustable to take up any stretchin the belt. The table, which has acontinuous top, is also carried onthe side plates with the conveyor beltpassing directly over it so that thelable gives direct support to theworkpiece as it is carried under thecontact rol l. As the top of the conveyorremains at a constant height inespect-ive of the th¡ckness of stock beingsanded, the machine is ideally suitedfor inclusion in a conveyor system.
Feed Drive:A compact variable speed gear unitwith its own drive motor is mountedat the rear of the machine. A hand-wheel enables the most suitable feedrate to be selected.
Sanding Unit:The inclined sanding head consists ofan extremely rigid arm on which thecontact and tensioning rolls aremounted. The arm is supportedon the right hand side of the frame bya heavy fixed bracket and on the lefthand side by a light bracket whichcan be swung aside for quick changingof the abrasive belt. pinch rolls are provided at the front andrear of the contact roll for bettercontrol of the workpiece. These rollsare spring loaded and have inde-pendent vertical adjustment. Daylightbetween the abrasive belt and the topof the conveyor is manually adjustable.A hand operated lever enables quicklifting of the sanding head in the eventof the workpiece jamming.
Finishing Pad:A finishing pad (optional extra) canbe fitted behind the contact roll. Thispad accommodates itself to the surfaceof the workpiece and enables aparticularly high quality finish to beobtained.
Electrical Equipment:lncludes motors, internal wiring, push-buttons and control gear with f ulloverload and no voltage protection.
Contact Roll:The contact roll which brings theabrasive into contact with the work-piece is rubber covered, the rubberbeing of a hardness su¡table to theparticular application. The surfaceof the rubber is grooved with spiralserrations carefully arranged to ensureefficient stock removal, and contact andtensþning rolls are both dynamicallybálãnced to ensure freedom fromvibration. Drive to the contact rollis from a motor on a bracket at theright hand side of the machine.
Pneumatic Tensioning andTracking:Tension on the abrasive belt is kept

constant by the pneumatic tensioningsystem. The tracking of the belt ismonitored by opposing jets of airacting on one edge of the belt andany necessary correcting act¡on isautomatic.
Exhaust Hood and Guard:The top guard incorporates the exhausthood and the cover on the left s¡deof the guard is hinged to swing opento give access for belt changing.Provision is made for adequate dustextraction and outlets are providedin the guard for connection by flexibleducting to a suitable exhaust unit.
Optional Extras
Super Finishing:The normal contact roll and bearingscan be replaced with a spindle assem-bly suitable for carrying a Scotchbritebuffing roll. ln th¡s case an air drivenmechanism permanently mounted onthe sanding unit main beam providesthe necessary oscillating motion re-quired for efficient Scotchbrite oper-ation (Figs. 2 and 3).
Panel cleaning brush:Machines can be equipped with apower driven brush with independentdust hood arranged to clean the surfaceof theworkpiece as itleavesthe machine.
Finishing pad:This holds the belt against the work-piece surface after passing the contactroll, giving a long scratch pattern andan enhanced finish, but the minimumlength of part which can be handledincreases.
Magnetic table:A magnetic table under the conveyorband can be supplied for special appli-cat¡ons.
Double nip rolls:On pieces presenting feed difficultiesthe maximum tract¡ve effort can beobtained by the fitting of double niprolls to hold the part on to the conveyor.
Reversing conveyor:A push button control can be providedbeside the operator enabling him toreverse the feed just as soon as the partemerges at the rear ofthe sanding head,thus causing the workpiece to return tothe leading point.

TSH with return conveyor:For small parts an optional return con-veyor located below the main feed con-veyor, eliminates a second man andattendant handling effort by taking theparts as they come off the feed con-veyor and returning them to the oper-ator for stacking, for finishing the otherside, or for a further pass.
