1.0 REQUIREMENTS OF ELECTRICALS FOR THE PACKAGE (ABRIDGED)
1.1 The scope covers the technical requirements of complete Electrical erection works and
equipment, Procurement, Supply, Manufacture, Inspection and testing at works, Dispatch in well packed condition to site, Insurance, Receipt at site, Proper and safe
storage, Transport to place of installation, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of the complete Electrical erection works for its satisfactory operation and maintenance,
required for Non plant Buildings for M/S HPCL , Anantapur. The various electrical
equipments for this package are required to be installed in proposed Non plant Buildings for M/S HPCL , Anantapur
1.2 Supply, laying & termination at both ends of cables / wires (power, control & lighting) for
the system.
1.3 Supply , installation , testing & commissioning of 415V, 3Ph-N LTG DB, Power DB,
UPS distribution board, Lighting fixture as per enclosed schedule of rates for Electrical
erection works (non plant)
1.4 Complete lighting distribution network along with necessary panels and sub distribution
board.
1.5 Circuit / Point wiring -Wiring to light points, power points & computer power points.
1.6 Complete illumination system for Proposed Non plant Buildings including Lighting
fixtures, control gear boxes, junction boxes, lamps, fan, exhaust fan, sw sockets etc
and associated accessories and wiring. All supporting structures for lighting fixtures fan
etc including brackets, clamps etc. Supplier shall carry out lighting system as per
Schedule of rates for Electrical erection works for non plant building Rev 0 the layout
drawing no. 8484-9512-0816 to 8484-9512-0820 Rev.0 attached with circuit nos.
1.7 Heavy duty Double compression; Ni plated brass cable glands shall be supplied by
contractor for all the outdoor equipment and Heavy duty Single compression; Ni plated
brass glands for indoor equipments , Wherever require to terminate the armoured
cables.
1.8 All cables and cabling either overhead / buried / underground to suit the requirements
including cable glands, lugs, ferrules, clamps, tags, route marker etc.
Complete earthing network in and around non plant building for equipment earthing,
lightning protection etc. including earth grid conductor, earth electrodes in earth pits,
earthing strips, wires, earth plates, associated connectors and accessories for the
earthing. All panels, JBs, racks / pipes and all other equipments as required. This shall
also include hooking up with the owner‟s main grid at minimum two points. Contractor
shall carry out the earthing of all electrical items housed in non plant building equipment

1.9 Testing kits, tools, tackles, hardware etc. and monitoring /measuring instruments
required for various equipment / items during installation, testing & commissioning. Reliable and accurate cable fault detector and tracer of reputed make shall be used.
1.10 All related basic design and detailed engineering drawings, operation, trouble shooting
and maintenance manuals for the system / equipment alongwith drawings, test
certificates and guarantee certificates for each item.
1.11 Submission of hard copy and soft copy of as built drawings, BOQ and revised / final
documents
1.12 Statutory approvals for equipment, Engineering drawings, installation etc. as mentioned
in clause 3.0 below
1.13 The Contractor shall make own arrangement of storing facility for the equipment being
supplied by them.
1.14 Contractor shall prepare, submit and secure approval from HPCL for other vendors
drgs for the items being procured by them. Supplier shall obtain clearance from HPCL
before taking procurement action of various electrical items required for complete

1.15 The quantities required for completing the job shall be supplied and erected by
Supplier. Complete preparation of final BOQ is in Contractor scope.
1.16 Erection, testing and commissioning of all equipment and materials supplied by
Contractor including complete power lighting, earthing, cabling, cable tray /conducting
works etc. within the battery limit.
1.17 Installation, checks, measurements and operational tests at site on all electrical
equipments and system and remedial measures required shall be carried out for
successful operation of the system at site, if required in presence of HPCL
representative.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
2.0 The associated minor civil works with regard to above mentioned equipments, cable
trench/ slits, buried cables, earth stripes, including chipping of RCC floor/ paved floor in
plant /sub-station area, digging of bricks, sand, back-filling to desired level, road
crossing for cables with Heavy duty H D PVC pipes of sufficient diameters and
quantities, earth - pits of bricks/concrete walls with RCC removable covers, cutouts,
openings, etc. and painting of M.S. structures covered under this package are included
in contractor's scope.
2.1 Submission of Type test, Routine test and guarantee test certificates of all items,
instruction, operation, trouble shooting and maintenance manuals for each item/system
etc. is included in the scope of the Contractor. Adequate, experienced and qualified
Electrical manpower shall be deployed by the Contractor for timely and satisfactory
completion of the project right from beginning till handing to owner of the project.

2.2 The handling, transportation of equipments / materials / items to site for erection,
fabrication steel work, GI earth strips, Heavy Duty H D PVC pipes, GI sheets etc.),
welding steel works, GI earth strips etc. alignment levelling, grouting, bolting, clamping,
assembly, installation / erection, painting MS steel works checking, measuring, testing
and commissioning, safe keeping of equipments and installation till certified completion
of entire work ; submission of drawings and documents and clearance of site of
complete electrical installation required for non plant package shall be in Contractor
cope.
2.3 Scope of work shall include all necessary civil works ; minor repair, rectification works,
touch painting works along with supply of all necessary hard wares, erection material,
consumables and providing of all tools and tackles equipments; instruments and
temporary facilities required in and for the satisfactory execution and completion of the
entire work.
2.4 Site mobilization including making own arrangements for non plant buildings and for
construction water as well as water for other purposes, resource mobilization setting up
of office, stores, workshop etc, shall be in contractor‟s scope.
2.5 Indian electricity rules, regulation and acts, Indian factory acts, Indian explosives acts
etc. Shall be followed and as per the best engineering practice to obtain the best
desired results.
2.6 Coordinate and arrange site inspection and obtain written approval from State Electrical
Inspectorate and if required from other statutory authorities of the completed
installations and works and other details as specified in cl. No. 3.00
2.7 Submission of all final and relevant drawings and documents e.g. manufacturer‟s work
test reports, drawings, instruction manuals, descriptive literatures etc.; in respect of
equipment and materials supplied. Written approval from the State Statutory Authorities
of the completed installations and works along with test results etc.; site test reports;
approved detailed engineering drawings and as-build drawings etc.; in specified and
requisite No. of copies shall be submitted.
2.8 The site shall be cleared of excess and left over equipment and materials, procured and
supplied by the contactor but not used in his work.
2.9 Erection, testing, commissioning and painting of electrical equipment shall be as per
specification enclosed./ IS
2.10 Wiring
a. Scope of Work The scope of this section comprises of supply, delivery, store at site, prepare the conduit
layout / assembly, fix and erect in proper position, heavy duty, hard & rigid black colour PVC
conduit of minimum 2.0 mm wall thickness and as per IS 2509 of 1973. As per layout
drawings.

b. Application Standards
The relevant sections of Indian Standard Specifications as more particularly stated herein
and broadly to all the codes, statues and regulations as applicable shall be strictly enforced
and adhered to. More particularly following codes should be strictly followed:
IS 2509 of 1973 : Rigid non metallic conduits for Electrical Work
IS 732 : Wiring Practice
IS 3043 : Code of Practice of Earthing
IS 3202 : Climate proofing of Electrical Work.
c. Rigid PVC Conduit Work
i) Rigid PVC conduit work for concealed wiring shall be carried out & shall be submitted
to civil to lay the conduit before construction stage accordingly Lighting Layout
drawings. ii) The minimum wall thickness of Rigid PVC Conduits permitted for concealed conduiting
shall be 2.0 mm thick & min. 25 mm dia.
iii) The tubing must be perfectly circular, without burrs or kinks.
iv) The conduits & conduit accessories shall be of such type, so as to be capable of
making tight fitting joints. v) The minimum size of Rigid PVC conduits allowed in surface concealed work shall be
of 25 mm and above.
vi) Conduit Accessories
- All conduit accessories that are to be used in surface work shall be of Rigid PVC type
confirming to latest and relevant IS codes
- All junction boxes of one way or above shall be of appropriate with adequate wall thickness.
- In surface conduit work, adequate inspection types of bends of boxes shall be maintained
for easily drawing the cables normal / elbows are being permitted after specific approval.
vii) Conduit Assembly Work (Surface / Concealed)
- Initially all drawings for surface conduit work shall be inspected. Any discrepancies or
otherwise occurring due to site condition or change internal layouts or in walls shall be
reported. After rectification of same, then the measurements and marking shall be done
for the conduit assembly on the slab.
- All conduits shall be assembled. Wherever straight runs exceeds 6 mts. additional pull
boxes or junction shall be provided. However, the entire assembly shall be so assembled
in order to facilitate renewal of etc. in the future.
- Wherever fluorescent light fixtures are shown in the layout, the conduit shall be
terminated in a PVC junction boxes at the centre of the fixture, unless otherwise specified
or indicated in drawings.

- For all circuit wiring, i.e. from Lighting Distribution Boards to Individual Switchboards,
minimum 25 mm Rigid PVC conduits and minimum 2.0 mm wall thickness conduits shall be used.
- The entire Rigid PVC conduit assembly then shall be checked for rigidity and no
movement shall be allowed in the assembly.
- Where the conduit passes through the flooring the same shall be passed through
galvanized pipe of suitable size fixed in the flooring, so that conduits, cables or wires can
be renewed at any time without breaking the floor.
- Where the conduit runs in brick walls same should be necessarily fixed by using suitable
MS clamps. In the straight run the distance between the two clamps shall not exceed 500
mm and additional clamps should be provided near bend and junction box.
- The entire jointing in PVC conduit assembly shall be done using PVC solvent cement
only. Wherever the conduits are terminated in PVC switchboards boxes or PVC, Socket
outlets boxes, the use of collars, male female type of adaptors shall be only used.
viii) Conduit Capacity
- The maximum capacity of a conduit for drawing in PVC insulated wires shall be in
accordance with IS 732 of 1963. The minimum size of conduit to be used shall not be
less than 25 mm {approx.} and not more than two circuits connected to same phase be
bunched in one conduit. Two different phases are not allowed in one conduit.
- Commonly used sizes of 250 / 440 Volts PVC wire and conduit capacities are as
tabulated below:

Point Wiring:
a) The wiring shall be of the looping in system as different from the tree system. Connectors
should not be used without specific prior approval of Engineer – In charge. Looping in on
the phase, neutral & Earthing each side shall be at the switches and light point, fan point
and socket
b) Plug point shall have individual control switch unless stated otherwise. Earthing shall be
provided for all the points according to the statutory, requirement wherever necessary. The
number of points per circuit shall not exceed 8 in any case.
c) For easy identification, wires with different colours; shall be used for phase (R, Y, B),
neutral (black) , Earthing (Green) and as far as practicable.
d) Point wiring by using cable / wire cable

This shall be similar to point wiring in concealed system. The fixing of cables shall, however,
be according to the specs. The cables / wires shall have a grade 1100 volts for lighting and power wiring.
2.11 Specification for installation of point Wiring of Equipment.
a) The method of installation shall comply to Standard practice of wiring methods. Then the
conduit along with its accessories shall be erected in the layout suggested in drawings. The
downward bends and the drops shall be properly done and fixed in a row. All hardwares
and spacers shall necessarily be of galvanized iron. The conduits entering and leaving the
junction boxes, distribution boards shall have adequate and firm gripping device. Final work
of the conduit shall have a neat appearance to direction by the engineer-in-charge.
b) Emergency light wiring and other similar type shall have a coloured band „RED‟ and shall be
distinctly kept different from point wiring equipment.
c) Before erecting and conduit assembly work, the entire conduit route shall be thoroughly
inspected at site reported to the Engineer-in-Charge in case of shall any difficulties. As far as possible, all crossings and over lapping of various conduits should be avoided.
d) Before laying or erecting the conduit work the Contractors shall discuss with the Engineer-
In-Charge for all final locations and heights of various switch boards / plug and sockets,
telephone outlets or any other point wiring outlets and then proceed with the work. As a
result of any interior changes made by the Engineer-in-Charge during the course of the
work or even after erection, it is felt that, the conduit routing has to be altered, then the
same shall be executed by the Contractor without any additional cost or claim for rework.
The Contractor is advised to consider such incidental costs while quoting the tender.
e) While erecting the point wiring materials, all works such as chasing in the flooring and
finishing the same to instructions and matching the existing flooring is included in the point
material work. Chasing of brick works and also RCC works to instructions is also included in
the point wiring works. All costs incidental to this work including removing of the debris is to
be, borne by the Contractor at no extra cost.
f) In case the conduits or sub mains or circuit cables or cables to individual LDBs and PDBs
are to be laid on cable racks then, the routing of the rack should be first discussed with the
Engineer-in-Charge. A close Co-ordination have to be maintained between the AC
Contractor, Plumbing Contractor and the other various agencies working at site.
2.12 Switches & Sockets
a) “ Roma” type Switches (Anchor make)
These shall be of single pole type / Double pole type, shock proof, manufactured as per
relevant I.S. The Switches shall be surface mounting and minimum continuous ratings shall
be of 10 A , 250 V AC. Higher ratings shall be provided as specifically stated in Schedules.
c) Socket outlets with Plugs (Anchor make)
These shall be in 2 Pin and earth design of best quality, suitable for single phase, 250
volts supply. The earth pin shall be effectively connected to the nearest conduit or earth

connections in distribution board with not less than 2.5 sq. mm (cu.) wire. The socket
outlet shall be complete unit shall be with ratings of 10 amps / 20 Amps . 250 volt or 25
amps. 250 Volts to suit individual requirement as stated in Schedule of Quantities and
Rates. The sockets outlet shall be in tumbler type designs or Piano type, flush mounting
or on plate designs as called for in the schedule.
2.13 LIGHTING FIXTURES:
The height of the lighting fixtures shall be maintained uniformly all throughout the various
areas. The fitting prior to erection shall be tested. The wiring checked and then erected. The
lighting fixtures in the office area and the urinals shall also be erected as stated herein and
finally to the instructions of site Engineer / Engineer-in-Charge. The tubes to be fixed in the
light fixture shall be of approved type and shall be fixed with tube clip holders in place for
specific light fittings when indicated in the schedule.
The lighting fixtures fixed on building etc. shall be done as per directions and instructions. In
the outside lighting and cabling / wiring complete with control gear box and the fitting. The
cost of these should be included in the erection cost of the fixture.
2.14 EARTHING:
a) Earthing system to be provided shall comprise of Earth Electrode of GI pipe in earth pits,GI
earthbus / grid or GI flats as earth continuity conductor.
b) Entire earth system shall confirm to the code of Practice as per I.S. 3043
c) General Requirement:
a) Enclosures and frame work of all current carrying equipment and accessories, structural
steel / columns shall be adequately earthed to a single earthing system, Unless separate
earthing systems are specifically stipulated. All electrical equipment shall be earthed at
two distinct points.
b) Earth loads and risers shall follow as direct and short a path as possible. Suitable risers
shall be provided as directed if equipment is not available when earthing is installed.
d) Earth Electrodes in Earth Pits:
i. 3.8M long GI earth electrode 100dia as per PDS:E (enclosed).
ii. Earth Bus and Earth Continuity Conductor
iii. Earth bus is a G.I. strip or flat of specified size interconnecting all earth electrodes.
iv. Switch gears and Power Distribution boards shall be earthed by a G. I. Flat Strip.
v. DBs shall be earthed by a continuity conductor as specified in SOR .
e) Artificial Treatment of Soil

If the earth resistance is too high and the multiple electrode earthing does not give
adequate low resistance to earth, then the 'soil resistivity immediately surrounding the earth
electrodes shall be reduced by adding sodium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium carbonate,
copper sulphate, salt and soft coke or charcoal in suitable proportions.
f) Resistance to Earth:
The resistance to each earthing PIT shall not exceed 1.0 ohm.
2.15 MISCELLANEOUS WORKS
i. Supply and installation of all other equipment/accessories not specifically mentioned
herein but nevertheless necessary for completion of job.
ii. Correction and submission of drawings for As‐built status.
iii. Submission of test certificates, catalogues, vendor drawings, installation, operation and
maintenance manuals for all equipment/materials in contractor's scope of supply.
iv. Civil works for earthing, lighting and installation of all equipments are in contractor‟s
scope.
v. Painting of all items, MS structures for electrical, support, cable racks etc. shall be
painted with epoxy based paint with 631 shade for indoor and 632 shade for outdoor as
per IS-5
vi. Contractor shall carry out complete supply, engineering erection, testing and
commissioning of the electrical system for non plant buildings in all respect.
vii. All equipments / items shall be provided with stainless steel name plates.
viii. Contractor shall supply and install the necessary supports and supporting arrangement
for various electrical items / equipments. Cable protection pipes wherever required
shall also be provided.
ix. Equipment and materials required for erection, testing and commissioning shall be
arranged by tenderer at site / works.
x. Supply of consumables like steel, earthing material, glands, lugs etc for erection, testing
and commissioning.
xi. Operational, maintenance and trouble shooting manuals for the complete Electrical
erection works and equipments shall be furnished by contractor.
3.00 STATUTORY APPROVALS
The equipment and installation shall comply with the provisions of latest issue of Indian
Electricity Rules and other Statutory Acts and Regulations. Obtaining approvals and

clearance for energizing the complete electrical facilities covered under this tender
including approval of drawings from Central Electricity Authority/other statutory agencies.
Any changes required by the CEA/statutory agency, shall be incorporated by the
contractor without any time or cost implementation to owner. Statutory approval fees will
be reimbursed to the contractor on production of documentary proof / evidence.
4.00 PAINTING
Painting of all the Electrical equipments, items, supports, structure etc. shall be followed
as per the respective Electrical engineering standards/ painting specification. Touch-up
painting at site wherever required is also included in the scope of the contractor.
5.00 ACTS AND RULES
Complete system work shall be done as per the latest relevant BIS, Indian Electricity Acts
and Rules, OISD norms as applicable and with good engineering practice.
6.00 EARTHING SYSTEM:
Earthing of electrical items shall be done as per latest BIS-3043 and as per PDIL relevant
erection sketches. Earth pits / Lightning pits and all earthing materials & hardware like
earthing strip/ earthing cables/ earthing bus bars etc. are under contractor‟s scope.
Following earthing sizes shall be considered for earthing system.
a. Earthing grid- 50x6 GI strip
b. Earthing grid to earth bus- 2nos.-50x6 GI strip
c. Lighting sub D.B, Power DB and other DB shall be Earthed by 2nos. 1X25 mm2 (AL)
PVC unarmoured cable. Any other equipment which are not listed above but required
for the package shall be properly earthed with suitable size of earth conductor /strip.
7.00 CABLING
i. Contractor shall include in his scope all the required Power, Control, Lighting and
Earthing cables (Al./Cu.) of various sizes as required and specified, cabling on
existing/new cable rack / trenches /slit / buried etc. and termination at both ends with
proper cable glands and lugs within the battery limit between battery limit .
ii. wherever cables rise up from the underground/burried protection by means of G.I.
pipes minimum upto 300 mm above grade level shall be provided with open ends sealed after cabling.
8.00 STANDARDS TO BE FOLLOWED
i. The design, manufacture, testing and Installation of the equipment shall comply with
the latest issue of relevant Indian Standard specification and codes of practices. In

the absence of ISS for any particular equipment or in case of imported equipment,
relevant IEC shall be complied with.
ii. The equipment and installation shall also comply with the provision of latest
Electricity Rules and other Statutory Acts and Regulation. The vendor shall obtain
approvals of statutory authorities for equipment, plant design / drawings and
Complete installation and shall make, wherever necessary, suitable modification in
the equipment, installation to comply with the above.
9.00 MISCELLANEOUS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Following items shall also be included in the scope of contractor: -
a. CO2 fire extinguishers & buckets with sand in new sub-station building in required
quantities as per the relevant acts/ rules. The necessary mounting / fixing
arrangement shall be provided by contractor
b. Danger boards as per the system voltage level for all DBs
c. Shock treatment charts in ADM Building.
a. All the electrical items / equipment required for the above work and for satisfactory
installation, operation and commissioning of the same contractor shall follow the
enclosed respective Schedule of rates for Electrical erection works , Erection
sketches, attached with this specification. Modifications, if any, shall be done by the
contractor in consultation with HPCL & shall be incorporated after HPCL ‟s approval.
Contractor shall prepare, submit and secure approval from HPCL drawings/
document including comprehensive list of all the final drawings/ documents.
Contractor shall obtain clearance from HPCL before taking procurement action of
various electrical items included in the package.
b. Approval of Documents & Drawings and consequent changes during execution will
not have any price implication.
c. The Installation & Commissioning brochure and Erection Sketches to be followed by
the contractor.
d. Contractor shall extend his full cooperation and necessary coordination with his
subvendors / other agencies involved during the execution of the complete project.
e. contractor shall bring all the necessary tools & tackles, testing and maintenance &
earthing trolley, fuse puller etc as required to maintain all the panels items involved &
different electrical systems and submitted to the site Engineer for his concurrence
and all testing shall preferably be done in presence of site engineer Such records
shall be duly signed by the contractor and HPCL and shall be kept in a separate file.

1.0 GENERAL
These specifications lay down the erection procedures to be followed for each type of
equipment, over and above the general "Erection Requirements". These are the general
guidelines for the listed equipment. However, the specification only for the items specified
in SOR should be followed. Relevant clause applicable for items not mentioned in SOR
may be ignored.
Manufacturer's instructions and any other instructions of consultant/owner/Statutory bodies shall also be followed by the contractor during erection.
1.0 CABLE INSTALLATION
1.1 GENERAL
1. Fabrication of chequered plates for trench covers, laying, spacing etc. of all types of
cables shall be according to the drawings or according to the instructions given by
consultant / owner.
2. Contractor shall keep accurate record of cable . Length of cable runs shown in the cable
schedules are the calculated lengths only and the actual lengths should be measured at
site before laying and cutting the cable. The contractor should take extreme care to
adjust cable runs from drums so that joints in the cable are avoided and wastage reduced
to minimum.
3. For purpose of measurement of cable run for payment the length of cable between and
terminations only will be considered.
2.0 Laying
1. Do not drag the cable on floor or hard surface. Use only wooden/steel cable rollers for
this purpose.
2. Cable should not be bent sharply to a small radius. The cable bending radius shall be as
large as possible and will not be less than 12 times the outside diameter for paper
insulated cables and 8 times for PVC cables. At joint termination the individual core of
cable shall not be bent with bending radius of less than 15 times the diameter over the
insulation.
3. Cables shall be clamped as shown in the drawings Care to be taken to space clamps to
such intervals as to prevent buckling of cables.
4. Opening in wall / floor for cable entry shall be sealed after the cables are laid.

3.0 Laying in Trenches
1. When cables pass through pipes, ends shall be sealed by pouring bitumen compound
and sand as required.
2. Providing of protection pipes whenever cables enter from the floor, trench etc. and
sealing in and around these pipes.
4.0 CABLE JOINING AND TERMINATION.
4.0 General
The scope of work includes -
1. Soldering/crimping of sockets (lugs) /ferrules and connections at all joints/terminations as
per specifications. Sockets(lugs) shall be provided at all terminations except where
pressure clamp type terminals are provided.
2. Glanding of cable and fixing of cable boxes.
5.0 Specifications.
1. All LT and control cables shall be terminated through compression type gland.
2. All lighting and control cables should be provided with crimped AL/CU Sockets (lugs)
before termination in junction boxes.
6.0 Crimping
All the control cables which shall be of copper conductor shall be terminated without any
additional lugs in screwed type terminals provided in various equipments. Before crimping
the socket inhibiting grease shall be smeared over the conductor. Conductor shall be
shaped properly before sliding the socket (lugs) over it. Crimping shall be done in an
approved manner.
7.0 Jointing
1. The jointing shall be done in an approved manner. Care should be taken not to damage
the insulation when opening the cable for jointing.
2. In case of LT XLPE / PVCA cables armours shall be suitably earthed in compression type
glands.
8.00 EARTHING

1. Painting of all earth strip joints with anti-corrosive paint shall be carried out as per details
given in the respective drawings.
2. All electrical equipment rated 415 V and above, shall be connected to earth bus by two
separate and distinct earth connections. All equipment rated 230 V and below shall be
earthed with single earth wire.
8.2 Specifications
1. Earthing conductor above ground shall be of aluminum wire bare or insulated or strip, and
conductor buried in ground shall be of G.I. or PVC insulated cables. Sizes of earthing
conductors shall be according to specified drawings.
2. The earthing wire or strips shall be laid along the cable racks, cable trenches, risers and
supports. Underground conductors shall run at a depth of 800 mm below ground level.
Where these conductors run along with cables, they shall be laid at the same depth as
cables. Where conductors run on wall, ceilings, they shall be laid on clamps or brackets
made out of AL strips.
3. Wherever, earthing conductor is passing through floor, walls etc. the conductor shall be
taken through PVC/GI pipes.
4. Connections - All paints, enamel etc. should be removed from point of contact before
making connections.
5. Connections between AL. strips shall be done by welding for connecting AL/G.I wire,
copper or AL. Socket shall be crimped on the wire. At the equipment and connections
shall be done by bolting. However, connections between G.I. strips shall be done by
welding.
Connection between AL G.I. shall be done by bolting. Graphite grease shall be applied on
contact surfaces.
6. Epoxy resin paint or bitumen shall be applied on welded or bolted joints to prevent
corrosion and taping done as indicated in the drawing. Connections between AL. wires
shall be done by crimping weak back AL ferrule.
7. Earth electrodes - Earth electrodes shall be provided as per drawings. Work includes
excavation of earth, installation of electrodes and test links etc. supply and filling of
charcoal and common salt, back filling of earth and removal of extra earth. It also
includes making brick wall around the electrode and cover according to drawing. The
testing links shall be grouted on brick wall and connections with earth electrode and
conductors shall be made. Distance between two electrodes should not be less than 10
meters and may be located 4 M away from building.
8. Earth pits for equipment earthing, transformers neutral earthing, and lighting protection
shall be separate. However, these pits shall be inter-connected.

9.0 LIGHTNING PROTECTION
9.1 Specifications
1. Conductor for Lightning shall be installed as indicated in drawings.
2. Fixing of conductor / strip for lightning protection on roof with AL sheet shall be done with
crank bolt and water tight compound provided.
3. Laying of down conductors and connection shall be done in the same manner as stated in
para 8.00.
10.0 LIGHTING
10.1 Specifications
1. The electrical installation covered by this specification shall conform to IS:732 (Code of
practice for electrical wiring and installation in buildings).
2. Where a number of cables are run together inside or outside the plant, the wiring shall be
supported on AL trays/steel structures.
3. Installation of equipment shall be done strictly following manufacturer's instruction or
relevant IS, NEC. Cable termination shall be done as per relevant drawings. No drilling of
holes or any change in construction, of equipment shall be done.
4. Wiring for AC supply light and plugs may be fixed in the same brackets but wiring for
emergency UPS supply lights will be fixed separately. In a circuit controlled by one switch
in Group Control Switchboard, there will be a number of points. Drawings for lighting layout
give only tentative location of fittings and wiring route shall be decided in consultation with
consultant/owner. Wiring of circuit should be bunched together to the extent of possible in
the same route. For wiring, and laying of cables, para 6.0 may be referred to. Cable for
wiring, light points, socket outlets, shall normally be laid along wall, ceilings, structures, on
suitable brackets made out of M.S./AL sheets or strips connections to the points in one
circuit shall be taken through junction boxes. Junction boxes shall be suitably located for
branching off from the circuit to the individual point. Wherever indicated, cables may be
laid directly on walls, ceilings etc. by clamping on saddles.
5. Terminations shall be done in a manner as detailed in para 7.0 Wherever indicated, the
wire can be drawn through PVC bushings provided in the fittings. Relevant drawings may
also be referred to.
6. Lamps should be installed after installation of fittings and wirings.
7. All light fittings and corresponding control switches shall be numbered in a permanent
way as instructed by consultant/owner.

11.0 ERECTION OF STRUCTURES
11.1 Specification
1. The fabrication work shall be done as per drawing and sketches in an approved manner
and to the complete satisfaction of consultant/owner. The contractor shall take necessary
care to avoid waste. Scrap should never exceed the permissible limit.
2. Erection of fabricated racks, risers cable supports etc.
a) The contractor before erection shall check the route for any obstruction like process pipe
lines, structures, equipment etc. In case obstructions are noticed, the matter should be
brought to the notice of consultant/owner in writing and racks shall be rerouted as per his
instructions.
b) As and where indicated in the drawings, supports for racks, risers etc. shall be welded on
the steel structure, such as MS beams, Purlines, pipe trestles, insert plates provided in
the RCC column etc. for erection of racks.
c) Wherever indicated, supports for racks, risers, shall be grouted on walls. The racks,
risers, then be installed on such supports, and those properly welded.
SPECIFICATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL TESTING AND COMMISSIONING
TESTING & COMMISSIONING SPECIFICATIONS
1.0 These specifications lay down the testing and commissioning procedures to be followed
for each type of equipment, over and above the general requirements laid down in specifications for erection.
Manufacturer's instructions and any other instructions of consultant/owner/Statutory
bodies shall also be followed by the contractor during testing and commissioning.
2.0 Insulation resistance test
a) Measure the insulation resistance of main bus bars, (phase to phase & Phase to earth)
circuit breaker, with 1000 V megger.
3.0 PANELLED EQUIPMENTS
3.1 Test insulation resistance with 500 V megger
3.2 All operational tests to verify function of each component like switches , MCB etc. and
sequence of operation, interlock as per circuit diagram.
3.3 Marshalling cabinet, controlled panels, power supply systems units etc. shall be tested as
per the instructions of manufacturer.

4.0 CABLES
4.1 All HT and LT cables shall be tested for insulation resistance with 1000 V megger after
termination. IR shall be measured between phases and between phase and earth. The
voltage shall be applied for 1 minute.
5.0 LIGHTING
Before energising any lighting circuit, the IR values (phase/phase and phase/earth) shall
be recorded for entire wiring installation. The testing shall be done with 500 megger.
After switching on the power supply, load of each circuit shall be measured.
6.0 EARTHING
The continuity of earthing and resistance of each earth pit and grid should be measured with earth megger.
7.0 MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT
For miscellaneous items like exhaust fan, blower etc. the following tests shall be
conducted.
a) Measurement of insulation resistance
b) Check up the direction of rotation.
c) Operational test
