This is a presentation I made of some of the artwork my 7th and 8th grade students created in two years teaching art in Stockton Unified.

Teaching Art

…on a music credential!

Theme: Chinese New Year

My 7th and 8th grade students

made these dragon puppets

with their Kindergarten

Art Buddies. At first the older students were nervous, but

they soon realized that helping the

younger students is a lot

of fun!

Theme: Pointillism

Many of my students had no background in art…but they made some

beautiful paintings!

Theme: Free PaintingThe next few slides are paintings that were featured at

Stockton’s Haggin Museum.

Theme: Medieval ArtUsing Illuminated Letters and Gargoyles to support he 7th grade social studies

curriculum

Teacher Sample

Theme: Native American ArtSupporting the 8th Grade social studies curriculum

Theme: Drawing with colored pencils

I learned that if I gave my students

a theme, their imaginations

would take off in wonderful directions.

Most of my students had no previous art training…and I am not trained to teach art, myself!

Teaching art without training or credentials was both

frightening and fun. In the end, I’m proud of what my students accomplished. I’m proud of the inspiration I was able to give

them.

Not bad for a music teacher!
