The focus is on:

How kids view TB

What kids know about

tuberculosis

How to increase TB

awareness among

children

How to promote healthy

behaviors

Health education lacks tangible resources .

Kids Be Aware was created to address community

needs.

The goal of the program is to raise TB

awareness among children.

Upstream intervention (acting early)

Prevention of communicable diseases is

necessary in childhood.

Intervention from children to adults

Increase knowledge

with regard to the

spread and prevention

of TB disease

Promote better health

behaviors

Build healthy

relationships among

children

A needs assessment was used to determine the need

for early TB education among children in schools and in

the community.

100 surveys were collected from parents

20-parent focus group study was conducted

20 parent interviews

20 children interviews (ages 9 to 15) were conducted

Parents were asked about the need of a TB program in

the community for children.

Parents from the focus group were interviewed with

regard to the appropriateness of the program.

Children ages 9 to 15 were interviewed.

Books will improve health behaviors

TB education is needed

Books are a great method for TB education

Introduce the program into the schools and in

the community.

Advocate for TB awareness among children

Encourage behavior change

The sample size used provides limited

information

A pilot study would provide ample information

if performed.

The findings show there is a need for early TB education.

The books and curriculum activities will help increase TB awareness

Introduce the books into schools

Parents and children want the program funded

and implemented.
