Take a deep-dive into Creative Code with Mike Knowlton and Hal Siegel from StoryCode. As storytelling becomes more influenced by software development practices we all need to think, write, and design like creative technologists. Learn how this impacts the process of creating immersive media projects. This workshop will explore new technologies, trends and projects using code creatively. We will explore off-the-shelf technologies as well as creative coding toolkits. We will also review examples of projects created with these new technologies and share successes and failures with each approach. In addition to learning about new tools, expect to walk away with a new methodology for creating stories that are conceived and executed in the new model of “story as software”.

Premise: The population demographics of the United States are changing. It is predicted that in the next 20 years, white descendants of European immigrants will no longer be the majority in this country. This year, the subject of immigration will take center stage as a bipartisan push to tackle immigration reform ensues.

Idea:Most people in the U.S. have an immigrant journey to share -- be it their own or the voyage of a relative in the past.

Goal: Create an experience that helps people share their own immigration story, and enables them to see the common threads between the stories of potential immigrants, new immigrants and longtime residents.
