---- Since end 1980s, a lot of beautiful Chinese mineral specimens have been occurring in the international market;
--- Collecting mineral crystals and specimens is NOT the tradition in China, only few people began to be interested in collecting them recently;
-- Besides Jade and stone carvings, Chinese people do love the natural rocks; but they treat the stones in different ways from the Westerns.

China has a long history in collecting natural stones. It started in later Zhou Dynasty (2,600 year ago), and began to prevail in Tang Dynasty (1,100 years ago).

The early stone collectors of the nature stones includes royal family, governmental officer, rich people, Taoists and Buddhist, and scholars.
The collectable stones in ancient time include colorful, unusually shaped rare stones, and rocks that are related to believes, holy and history events, as well as suitable for writing-room application.

Chinese pay special attention on shape, color, size of the collectable stones, as well as their rareness.
They focus on a stone’s aesthetic appeal as well as any potential links to legend, ancient events, famous people, religions or philosophies.
In effect, the Chinese do not collect the stones themselves; rather they collect a physical representation of the ideas that the stones imply.
Rock collecting in China is, therefore, regarded as a cultural endeavour.

The first three groups can be any attractive or strange looking stones or a piece of rock from a remote or historic location.
For example, a pebble or cobble developed with graphic veins or a big block with laminations or structure displaying a special character or an image.

1) Shoushan-stone (agalmatolite) from Fujian. The best Shushan-stone is “Huangtian”, known as "the emperor of stone";
2) Qingtian-stone from Zhejiang; The best is known as "frozen light” and “in-door blue”.
