Our Faith...Our Future Centennial Celebration
Saint Paul Parish 1916-2016
In September 2013, Fr. Thomas Rafferty was appointed as administrator of St. Paul Parish. Fr. Rafferty is a Cambridge native, educated at Boston College High School and Boston College. After obtaining a law degree from New England School of Law and working for some years as a lawyer, Fr. Rafferty entered Blessed John XXIII Seminary in Weston and completed his theological studies there. He was ordained in 2005. Prior to his appointment to St. Paul’s, Fr. Rafferty served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick Parish in Natick and then as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Swampscott and St. Thomas Aquinas in Nahant. During his two years at St Paul’s, Fr. Rafferty introduced the popular ‘Why Catholic” program and reintroduced communion under both kinds. He spearheaded the fundraising campaign for the restoration of the church organ and supported the choir in their successful POPs concert. Fr. Rafferty also established a new Youth Room for the parish Youth Group and led a Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Following his appointment at St. Paul’s, Fr. Rafferty was appointed as Administrator of St John the Evangelist Parish in Canton.

COLLABORATIVE NEWS
World Youth Day Reflection of The Week
Our young pilgrims reflect on their experiences in Krakow.
Many times we have heard that it is in suffering that
grace is found. This trip, in which we endured several challenges, provided a taste of how moments of
difficulty can draw us nearer to God. Mercy - the theme of WYD 2016 - transcended each moment, even those most trying. As young pilgrims, we were asked to be
merciful to others and ourselves each day but perhaps most importantly to be open to receiving God's mercy. Whether we were praying reverently during adoration at the Mercy Center, stopping at shrines of great Saints, or reflecting on the Pope's message we were called to be open to God's forgiveness and love. That openness to
Mercy, while making us spiritually vulnerable, allowed us to draw us nearer to each other in a way that only God
could have made possible during this pilgrimage.
PASTORAL CARE AT ELIZABETH SETON

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 23, 2016
COLLABORATIVE NEWS
.
My dear friends in Christ, First of all, let me express my heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome you have given me since I arrived as pastor of the St. John-St. Paul Collaborative in July. I am truly blessed to be pastor of two wonderful parishes, each with rich traditions of vibrant liturgies, inspiring music, countless opportunities for faith formation for all ages and outreach to the needy. Both parishes are thriving and we hope to enhance the vitality of each parish as we grow together as a collaborative. One significant aspect of the collaborative is the way the staffs of both parishes work closely together. Some staff members, including the priests, deacon, Director of Operations and Finance and Business Manager, are assigned to the collaborative as a whole. Others, including religious education staff, music ministry and administrative staff, are assigned to the individual parishes. All staff of both parishes work in close collaboration with each other. As a result, we will soon be making adjustments to the physical locations of some staff so that those who work together most closely can work together more easily and efficiently.
Religious Education and Music Staff will remain in their current locations both at St. John’s and St. Paul’s.
The main offices for the Pastor, Parochial Vicar, St. Paul’s Pastoral Associate and Youth Ministry Coordinator will be at St. Paul’s at 502 Washington Street. St. Paul’s administrative staff will also be on site every weekday until noon.
Our new Collaborative Administrative Offices will be at the Parish Center (former convent) at St. John’s at 39 Washington Street. All offices formerly at St. John’s Rectory will be here, in addition to the Business Manager and administrative staff.
We plan to transition staff to their new locations by November 1, 2016. The above is just a practical reorganization so that we can work and minister together more effectively. The priests and other staff will be happy to meet you at whatever location is most convenient for you. We are here for you! Look for regular updates and Frequently Asked Questions in the bulletin. I am excited to begin this journey of faith together! Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Jim Reverend James J. Laughlin, Pastor
