InvestigationsPlay based learning
capitalises on children s
natural sense of inquiry and
discovery through hands-on
exploration of the world
around them.
Play-based learning is
purposeful and what we call
in en ional . We deliberately
plan play based experiences
to help children learn about
educational concepts involved
in literacy, numeracy,
technology, social skills and
more in a a ha s
meaningful and enjoyable to
them.
Every student is different. Each one
has a special set of qualities and
skills, and brings their own blend of
experiences and perspectives to their
learning. This is why, at Springside
we aim to create an engaging
learning environment for your child,
designed to bring out the best in their
emerging competencies, interests and
strengths.

Wellbeing
School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is an evidence-based framework for preventing and responding to student behaviour. It aims to create a positive school climate, a culture of student competence and an open, responsive management system for all school community members, while providing the individual behaviour and learning supports needed to achieve academic and social success for all students. The SWPBS is continuing to be implemented at Springside in 2020.

room. This offers lots of activities to ensure all students have the opportunity to be active and
engaged while outside
WellbeingSocial Emotional Learning Program (SEL)
At Springside we have incorporated Social and Emotional Learning into our curriculum which
includes running a stand alone lesson each fortnight. This aims to support students develop self
awareness and self management skills to help them achieve school and life success.
Zones of Regulation
Self-regulation is something everyone continually works on whether or not we are cognizant of it .
We all encounter trying circumstances that test our limits from time to time. If we are able to
recognize when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it to manage
our feelings and get ourselves to a healthy place. This comes naturally for some, but for others it
is a skill that needs to be taught and practiced. This is the goal of The Zones of Regulation (or
Zones for short).
WHAT ARE THE ZONES?
The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavioural approach used to teach self-regulation by
categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete
coloured zones. The Zones framework provides strategies to teach students to become more aware
of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and
improve their ability to problem solve conflicts.
Homework in Prep consists of:
• Nightly Reading- Initially consists of Parents reading to their child and then the child answering questions about the content of the book.
• Completing suggested discussion prompts from Little Learners Love Literacy character letters
• Selecting one activity from the Independent Choice Grid each week.
Homework Expectations
Nightly Reading RoutinesWith the changes to our reading instruction, there will also be changes to our Home
Reading expectations. During Term 1, parents are asked to read to their child and
then ask comprehension questions about the text. Question prompts will be provided
to parents to assist in the types of questions students should be practising.
