places are localities given meaning by human experiences in them.
3SOPLACE SUMMIT, GLOCAL CONVERGENCE FOR SENSE OF PLACE MAINSTREAM
summit preface
Welcome to SoPlace 2.0, the world's congregation for sense of place main-stream, with world renowned speakers, diverse delegates, international media,
exhibitors, and visitors across the world.
The atmosphere will be energizing , challenging, and inspiring. The SoPlace 2.0 theme Mainstreaming Sense of Place in the Urban Century
advocates that the globalized emergent urbanism is an opportunity of our lifetime to reimagine our built and natural environment.
The Summit will explore how places can build resilience and improve quality of life by adopting sustainable sense of place to increasingly complex urban
challenges. SoPlace is a new age platform brought to you for mainstream impact which will provide perspective exchanges; the sharing of best
practices and innovative solutions; presentations for ground-breaking ideas; the making, management and marketing of places in attracting and retaining
talent, citizens, investors, and tourists.
SoPlace provides opportunities for incubating and networking to enact new ideas, innovation, and sustainable socio-economic reform. The Urban
Century demands and expectations placed on tomorrow's sense of place are unprecedented. In the developed world, urban-dwellers must find ways to deal with rapid development, chronic inner-city poverty and homelessness, massive over-consumption of energy and non-stop suburban sprawl. Upcoming mega-
cities in Asia, Africa and South America face the immense challenges of poverty, burgeoning populations, vast slums, housing demolitions and natural disasters.

The Urban Century marked a defining moment in human history. For the first time, more people were living in cities than in rural areas. Cities have always been the incubator of new ideas, economic innovation and social reform. But in the Urban Century, the demands and expectations placed on cities are unprecedented. How do people from vastly different cultures and economic circumstances learn to live together? This is the challenge at the very heart of all places in this new century.
The Urban Century will redefine the world landscape, an era of Great Reset. The world is still in the midst of an age of global 'placelessness' expansion when governments leading and invested heavily in building massive infrastructures, subsidising suburban development and rationalising city centres as locations for skyscrapers an age, in short, that was typical of the United States of America and the Western Europe after the Second World War and appears a lot like China now.
