Smoking

What is in a cigarette?In a cigarette, There are many different things. These include:1. Tobacco2. Hexamine-Barbeque lighter3. Methane-Sewage gas4. Ammonia-Toilet cleaner5. Acetone-Nail polish remover6. Nicotine-Pesticide7. Acetone-Rat poison8. Radon-Radioactive gas9. Cadmium-Batteries10. Toluene-industrial solvent11. Tar-Roads12. Butane-Lighter fluid13. Stearic acid-Candle wax14. Methanol-Rocket fuelEvery time someone has one cigarette, This is what is going into their bodies. Cigarettes are

stimulants therefore wake you up and keep you lively.

What effect does smoking have on you?

Long Term

• Reduces oxygen uptake

• Increases heart rate• Increases blood

pressure.• Yellow fingers• Yellow teeth

Short term

• Affects visual judgement• Slows down reactions

and reflexes• Reduces supply of

oxygen the muscles are getting

• Lung diseases including cancer

• Possible foot amputation

Smoking has many long and short term effects.

Why does smoking affect your heart rate and blood pressure?

When a person has a cigarette, the red blood cells in their body grab on to the carbon monoxide (CO) that is being inhaled, because they prefer CO to Oxygen (O2). This means your red blood cells have less O2 to feed your tissues. This raises your heart rate as your heart needs to work harder to try to get more O2 in the blood. The blood pressure rises because the heart is working harder.

What makes smoking addictive and how can you quit when you are addicted?

The main addictive part in a cigarette is the nicotine. When you get used to having it in your body you feel like you constantly need it. However, nowadays, there are ways that you can still get the nicotine without the use of a cigarette. For example, There is now nicotine gum and (if the tempting part of smoking was having a cigarette in your mouth) then there are new nicotine inhalers that people can use just like a cigarette. There are even nicotine patches too.

QUIT NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!

How people can detect you are a smoker

• Smokers cough• Smell of smoke• Your lungs blacken • You find it hard to exercise• Your resting heart rate is high• The carbon monoxide levels in your blood are

high.DON’T THINK YOU CAN HIDE IT, PEOPLE WILL KNOW

!

Passive smoking

Smoking can have an effect on the people around you too. People you love and strangers you don’t know are at risk of dying. The smoke in which you exhale can be breathed in by others around you. This can weaken their lungs too. Your loved ones are at the most risk of dying as they see you the most often.

IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SAVE YOURSELF,SAVE YOUR FAMILY.

Alcohol

What is Alcohol?

Alcohol is a solvent in which adults consume for pleasure. Alcohol is a depressant therefore making you feel happy. Alcohol usually makes people feel ill in the morning though, this is called a ‘hangover’ . If you have a hangover then you may have a headache and sometimes vomit. If you have a hangover then you should not drive a car, as if you get pulled over by the police, your breathalyzer will be positive. Failure to respect this rule may result in prosecution.

What is addictive about alcohol and how can you give it up?

The only addictive thing about alcohol is the alcohol. The feeling alcohol gives to people when they consume it is also the reason for addictions. Cannabis

What is Cannabis?

Cannabis (also known as marihuana) is a drug that, in the UK, is illegal but in other countries is legal. It is a psychoactive and hallucinogenic drug. This substance comes from the cannabis plant. This plant originates from Asia but people who are addicted to it usually grow it at home. Cannabis can be smoked or eaten but is most commonly smoked.

Effects of cannabis

Long term effectsCannabis has not been studied

for long enough to establish any definite long term effects. We do know ,that if you smoke cannabis then it has the same effects as smoking a cigarette.

Short term effects• Increased heart rate• Dry mouth• Eyes redden• Slower reflexes• Extreme anxiety• Exclusion from others• Memory loss (short term)• Shorter attention span• Tampers with vision

Smoking cannabis

When people choose to smoke cannabis, They usually need to hand roll the cigarette as it is illegal to smoke cannabis. Smoking cannabis has pretty much the same effects as smoking tobacco. One of the differences is that this makes the person smoking it severely paranoid.

What countries Is cannabis legal in?

• Some parts of Australia• Netherlands• PakistanIt is illegal in most other countries around the

world to smoke, possess or grow cannabis due to its effects.

Hallucination

As one of the short term effects, hallucination is a big side effect of taking marihuana. The drug intercepts communications between nerve cells making the brain make up images that the person can see. This may also mean that the person can not see things that are actually there. This completely confuses the person.
