Messenger Pastor Al’s Message
“All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:18-19)
Everything around us in our world says that Christmas is over the day after we open our gifts, but I want to encourage us to consider something. Why do the scriptures record the verse above about Mary’s response to all that happened at Jesus’ birth? What might these words have to teach us as well?
Before we move with haste past Christmas into the New Year, let us follow Mary’s lead and find ways to cut time out of our days to continue to ponder the amazing gift, the amazing grace, that was showered on us in the birth of Jesus.
To possess a secret joy and to hold a marvelous mystery in mind and heart is to rise above the grind of daily life. Centering the self on the things that are most precious, opens a space of serenity where one can truly be at rest. In that sacred space, we can ponder on God’s surprises; there we can dare to know the heart of God and feel good-ness and grace.
It is also true though that God comes not only in those serene moments, but just as Jesus came wrapped in the swaddling clothes, our experience of God, at times, comes in the midst of the struggles and sorrows of this world.
Seeing God can be challenged by clatter and clamor, but when the truth of why Jesus has come resides deep within us, we can be the ones who can offer stillness right in the middle of chaos. We can be the ones who can ponder the possibilities that everyone else struggles to comprehend. When we have been touched by the truth of who God revealed Godself to be in Jesus, we can see the arrival of the Kingdom of God where it often is revealed; in the weak and the ordinary.
So may we all step into the stillness, look deeply into the mystery of what God has revealed to us in the birth of Jesus – how it happened, where it happened, why it happened - and how these truths can change the way we see and interact with the world this day and every day.
As we move into this New Year, let’s follow Mary’s lead. Let’s find the ways to avoid the temptation to move ahead with haste. Let us keep the story of Christmas in our hearts and minds. As we travel into the season of Epiphany, may it truly be a time that we continue to treasure this story and ponder what Jesus’ coming means for our lives and how he is continuing to come each day.
God’s Peace,

Sinai Lutheran Church 950 E 8th Street Fremont, NE 68025
May Joy fill your home and
Peace find its way to you this
season. Have a Blessed
Christmas and a Happy New
Year from the Sinai Staff!
~Pastor Al Duminy
~Emily Wageman
~Claire Bushong
~Cindi Lamprecht
What a great show of support for the youth cookie walk on December 8th! About $800 was raised that will help with the expenses of the mission trip next summer. Thanks to the youth families and SO many others who brought cookies and treats, made donations and took cookies home!
I want to say thank you to all the friends at Sinai that surrounded me with love during my ordeal with Thyroid Cancer. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to have you pray for me and thanks to those who sent cards, flowers and food and for Pastor’s visit and prayers before my surgery. I am happy to say the Dr. was able to get it all out so no further treatments will be needed and I feel very blessed by that. Thank you too for all your patience as I regain my speech. Hopefully soon it will be back to normal. I’m blessed to be a part of such a wonderful church family. Jeanne Schwaninger Social ministry, we want to thank you so much for the generous dona-tion of school kits full of supplies, notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers and so much more! You are impacting the community of Fremont one day at a time and one child at a time. We really appreciate your thoughtfulness. Blessings, Hope Center Kids Thank you to all who provided food for the Nov and Dec LifeHouse meal and to those who helped serve. We received many expressions of gratitude from the residents at LifeHouse. Diane Skurdahl & Jan Kruse
