Simply YOU – Affirmation cards
An affirmation is a positive statement about oneself. An affirmation a day blows a negative thought away.
Simply YOU cards are fun and positive tools to use in your classes. The cards are created for our smaller yogis to help them to build confidence, cultivate kindness, empathy, listening skills, build positive self esteem and at the same time help to develop basic literacy skills.
Affirmations can be wonderful tools of personal transformation for children. By making children aware of communicating positively using both words and thoughts we can help them to create positive experiences. Empowering children with the knowledge that they have choices in each moment how to think, and speak to others helps them to create their own inner and outer joy in life.
Why affirmations are great
• Promote positive talk and images • Promote positive thoughts and actions • Evoke positive emotions and feelings • Develop confidence and self – esteem • Help us to focus and achieve our goals • Are powerful tools to enhance our creativity
Simply YOU – Fun and creative card activities for Teachers to use in class
Once you have printed your set of cards out you might like to ask the students to pick a card and then decorate the blank side. The students have the opportunity to help design and create the card deck.
Shuffle the cards and fan them out with the affirmation face down. Students choose an affirmation card for the day. In a circle they share with everyone in the group
Getting in pairs – one person stands behind the other, the person in front closes their eyes whilst the student behind whispers the affirmation to them in their ear. This allows the students to completely absorb the feeling of the affirmation.
Create an affirmation as a group starting with ‘WE”. The group stands in a circle and holds hands, after a count of three runs safely into the middle of the circle raised their hands and shouts out the affirmation. Super popular and FUN!
Name posters – using the child’s name to a make an affirmation poster. Starting the affirmation with the same letter as name – i.e -‐ Annabel is awesome.
One of the children picks a card for the whole class and writes it on the board for everyone to see. At the end of the day discuss the feelings the children may have had using the affirmation.
Affirmation whisper – the affirmation is passed around the circle by whispering. The last person has to say what it is. Everyone then stands up and after the count of three calls it out and at the same time does a body action that makes them feel ‘PUMPED UP’!
Using the inspiration from the cards ask the children to create a self portrait with an affirmation written below that describes how AMAZING they are!
