Simon Peter

Miraculous Catch of Fish… Take 1* Luke 5: 8-11

“Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” - Peter

Matthew 26: 31 & 3331 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me,

for it is written:

“‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’”

33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”

Matthew 26:75Then Peter

remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the

rooster crows, you will disown me

three times.” And he went outside

and wept bitterly.

“Stalker” John?

“I am telling you your story,

not hers.No one is told

any story but their own.”

- Aslan in “The Horse

and His Boy”

One of the later themes in the Old Testament(Ezekiel 34 especially)

is God’s judgment on “false shepherds”

and His Plans in the future to provide

“true shepherds”that will have His Heart

and will sacrificially care for His people.

Jeremiah 50:6“My people have been lost sheep;

their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the

mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.”

Jeremiah 3:15“I will give you shepherds

after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.”

John 10: 14-16 “I am the good shepherd; I know

my sheep and my sheep know me… and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this

sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.”

Three times (the same amount of times he

had disowned Jesus), Peter reaffirms his

phileo & agape(brotherly & sacrificial)

love for Jesus.

Jesus reaffirms to Peter that to love God,

means to love people.

“In a world where everything revolves around self

– protect yourself, promote yourself, preserve yourself, entertain yourself,

comfort yourself, take care of yourself – Jesus says, ‘Slay yourself.’

He is worthy of more than church attendance and casual association; He is worthy of total abandonment

and supreme adoration.”- David Platt

“The first call which every Christian

experiences is the call to abandon

the attachments of this world.

When Christ calls a man, he bids him ‘Come and die.’”

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,

who loved me and gave himself for me.”

“Footprints” that followers of Jesus leave:

1.) Humbleness of heart & life2.) Tangible love for God and others3.) Ready & willing to carry their “cross”
