Castellar
Designer: John PetersYear: 1957Copyright: Monotype Classic FontsPublishers: Adobe and MonotypeNo lower-case characters.
It is based on carved lettering on a Roman column dedicated to Augustus, and named after a town in the Alps.
John Peters drew Castellar in 1957 for Monotype when phototypesettingwas in its infancy, well before the first laser printer appeared. This type-face, designed for titles, cannot, unlike Monotype's Centaur, be used foranything else. If you print Castellar in too small a size on a laser printerwith a resolution of 300 dots per inch, watch out! And if that doesn't dis-courage you from misusing the typeface, nothing will. Stay above 24points, and you'll be safe.
Notes: I used Castellar because its style is romantic and elegant, which isconsistent with my posters style. The audience of the poster may be travelenthusiasts, shutterbugs or people loving photos and magazines in gener-al. The poster is trying to convey the magnificence and beauty of the world.
