Torah Portions March 2020
March 7—11 Adar
Tetzaveh (You Shall Command)
Exodus 27:20 - 30:10
G-d appoints Aaron and his sons as priests, and describes priestly clothing. Aaron is commanded to make incense offerings every morning on an altar, and to make an offering on that altar once a
year to atone for all of the Israelites’ sins.
March 14—18 Adar
Ki Tisa (When You Elevate)
Exodus 30:11 - 34:35
Moses stays with G-d on Mt. Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights,
where he is given the 10 Commandments. The Israelites, fearing
Moses will never return, build a golden calf. Moses, seeing this,
smashes the tablets on the ground, and builds a tent to be his meet-
ing place with G-d..
March 21—25 Adar
Vayakhel (And He Assembled)
Exodus 35:1 - 38:20
G-d commands the Israelites not to do any work in the sanctuary on
Shabbat. The Israelites gather gifts for G-d. Moses says that
Ohaliab and Bezalel, who are filled with the spirit of G-d, should
build G-d’s sanctuary.
March 28—3 Nisan
Vayikra (And He Called)
Leviticus 1:1 - 5:26
G-d describes the laws of animal sacrifice. G-d explains the differ-
ent sacrifices that atone for guilt or sins, and distinguishes between
sins committed inadvertently and sins committed on purpose.

President’s Message
The Nominating Committee has been formed for next year’s
Board of Trustees openings chaired by Micki Greenspan. Shortly,
an email will be sent to all members asking for volunteers to
submit a resume, and why they would like to serve on the Board.
We encourage all of you to send your information in.
The rabbinical search committee has been interviewing candidates, and having qualified
candidates in for person-to-person interviews. This is an important decision, so we are not
rushing. We are so lucky to have volunteers and staff who are capable, willing and excited
about leading Friday and Saturday services, as well as Torah study.
Special thanks goes to our Avi Levine Religious School Principal, Arava Talve. Not only is she
doing an outstanding job with the religious school, but has been instrumental in filling the
spots necessary to keep our religious services available to meet our members’ needs.
A brief reminder: Many people love our musical services headlined by Wayne Abravanel, as
well as the Zimra service with additional musicians. Temple Sinai has a Music Fund, and I
encourage you to contribute to this fund so we can maintain our outstanding musical program.
As I complete my 2nd year as Temple President I refer you to “Weiler’s Law” which states:
“Nothing is impossible for people who don’t have to do it themselves.”
Bob Glast

From the Principal/Melamedet
In January some of our religious school students participated in the Shabbaton at Camp Alomim in Simi Valley. For our younger students, it was an introduction to Jewish camping. They all gathered at Sinai early Friday afternoon to take the three-hour journey. Our students joined those from four other Temples in the Los Angeles area for a fun Shabbat and Havdalah experience. Many thanks to our Jewish Federation for making the trip possible for our students! Upon returning, we interviewed the students and asked them about their experience. Here are some of their responses:
“I liked the Alpine tower! There were many ways to climb and the views were awesome.”
“On Erev Shabbat we all dressed up and I got to see some friends I made from last summer.”
“The food was great.”
“The soccer field was big and we had fun on the obstacle course.”
“Singing Jewish songs before and after the meal was really nice.”
“The rotation of activities was good because we got to experience everything.”
“The cabins and the bunk beds were fun because I got the top.”
“I liked the discussions. We talked about Jewish traditions and holidays.”
“Learning Jewish songs and singing the prayers was fun.”
“I learned more about Jewish traditions and rituals.”
“The experience made me even more excited about becoming a Bat Mitzvah.”
Many thanks to Abi Sanford who chaperoned the students during the drive, and also served as a counselor for the weekend. The students will be sharing their experiences during our next school T’fillah on Sunday at 11:30am.
