THE GREEN RIDE FOR GREEN JOBS IS ON THE ROADThe Project Learning Tree Canada team is excited that the Green Ride for GreenJobs awareness campaign is rolling through its second week. This cross-country bike tour isencouraging youth to work in green jobs and help fill critical roles in forests and parks. ZacWagman, PLT Canada's Green Jobs Manager, is cycling from Victoria, BC to St. John's,Newfoundland. Zac is riding a wooden bike from Montreal's Piccolo Velo. In his first twoweeks on the road, Zac has travelled through 10 communities in Southern BC and coveredover 1,000 km/650 miles. By the time he's finished, Zac will visit 50 Green Jobs employers,in 30 different communities, across nine provinces. PLT Canada is an initiative of SFI.

Zac's journey began with a celebration in Victoria on May 13. He will cover over 8,750 kmin four months. Follow PLT Canada on Twitter (@PLT_Canada), Facebook (@PLTCanada)and #MyGreenJob for updates!

2019 PROJECT LEARNING TREE CONFERENCE A BIGSUCCESS

Over 100 participants from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Japan attendedthe 2019 PLT International Coordinators' Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. The overalltheme for the conference was PLT in a Changing World, with a strong focus on how toposition PLT within the changing field of education. Over 40 individuals helped to leadgeneral, concurrent, and show-and-tell sessions and the Arkansas PLT program, led by theArkansas Forestry Association, helped plan a variety of off-site educational events and pre-and post-conference tours. Conference highlights included a keynote by Richard Louv,founder of the Children & Nature Network, learning about natural flora and fauna from theArkansas Game and Fish Commission on a visit to the Witt Stephens Jr. Central ArkansasNature Center, and witnessing first-hand how sustainably managed forests support theproduction of dimensional pine lumber and Kraft paper while visiting Green Bay Packagingfacilities.

PROJECT LEARNING TREE ANNOUNCES 2019LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION AWARD WINNERS

Project Learning Tree recognized the educators who have made significant contributions toPLT with the Leadership in Education award. The awards, announced during TeacherAppreciation Week, May 6-10, were given to a natural resource professional and aclassroom teacher who have taken very different paths to engage the next generation. EdLewis, a procurement forester for Westrock, one of the world's largest paper and packagingcompanies, is based in Alabama and has used the PLT curriculum to teach others aboutsustainable forestry throughout his 40-year career. Kirsten Brazier is a first-grade teacher atCrawfordville Elementary School in Florida, a Title 1 school where more than 40% of thestudents are economically disadvantaged. She serves as the school's PLT coordinator andreaches across all grades with a variety of PLT activities. SFI IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE SPRINGMEETINGS AND WEBINARThe SFI Program responds to local needs and issues across North America through 34 SFI Implementation Committees at the state, provincial or regional level. This unique grassroots network involves private landowners, independent loggers, forestry professionals, Indigenous people, local government officials, academics, scientists, and conservationists. Meetings have already been held in Little Rock, AR and Rhinelander, WI with future meetings scheduled in the coming weeks.
