WINTER CAS SPORT – ROUND 1 The Senior Teams played Irene McCormack on Tuesday 6th May. The Senior Boys Soccer Team missed countless chances in front of goal with Irene McCormack rescued by their goalkeeper on numerous occasions. A lack of clinical finishing resulted in a 3 – 0 defeat when we were caught a number of times on the break after dominating both possession and territory.
The Senior Girls Netball Team were leading and even had a comfortable four goal advantage in the second half; however, an injury to one of our players in the last two minutes allowed Irene McCormack to rally and win on the last shot of the game by a single goal 27 – 26.
The Senior Girls Soccer Team were comfortably ahead 3 – 1 with just minutes left to play; however poor defence allowed Irene McCormack to sneak an unlikely victory 4 – 3. That’s soccer!
A number of changes in the Year 10 Netball Team players originally selected meant this was always going to be hard match. Well done to Delaney Smith (Year 9) who played above her age group.
Hopefully more wins will come when we play Prendiville who are always competitive.
The Juniors and Year 7 students were set to play; however, fixtures were cancelled that afternoon due to severe weather.
JUNIOR FIXTURE ALTERATION: Due to the Year 7 and Junior fixtures being cancelled at the last minute last Wednesday due to severe weather, Round 1 will be played on Wednesday 4th June in the general bye week. Up to date fixtures are included in this edition of Sports News and are also online at the School’s Sports Webpage.
SSWA NETBALL CARNIVAL REPORT Seventy five girls attended the SSWA Netball Carnival on Friday 9th May. They performed exceptionally well, with our Year 8A Team going undefeated though the day in the lower age group (U14) division meaning they will have a home draw and qualify to the State knock out rounds.

The Year 9A and 10 Team playing in the middle age group (U16) also fared well, both wining three out of their four games. The 9A almost went unbeaten but narrowly lost in the last game of the day against Duncraig SHS, where they were against mostly Year 10 students. Both teams should qualify for the State knock-out rounds; however, if they do it is likely they will have an away match.
The Year 7A, 8B and 9B Teams also played well, winning two out of their four matches. The 7B Team won one, while the 7C Team could not manage a win (often playing against Year 8 students).
This Carnival has greatly helped the girls with their team understanding and confirmed our CAS ‘A’ Teams of the season. All teams showed great improvement during the day as a result of exposure to competition against other schools. All the girls performed exceptionally well. Well done.
Many thanks to the following parents who assisted on the day: Mrs Fishwick, Mrs Mence, Mrs Morgan, Mrs Simon, Mrs Chase
SSWA CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD SELECTION
‘FINAL’ SSWA CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD, PHOTOGRAPH & BBQ The attitude displayed by our Cross Country Squad has been excellent, and we can truly say that the core values of our Cross Country Squad have been exhibited thus far:
Dedication
Hardwork
Ambition
On Friday I was privileged to see both Kaj Kremer and Alec Roberts complete (and finish) the ‘Beep Test’ as a pair, a feat I have never seen achieved before (Level 22)!!! It was fantastic to watch and experience the students complete the test as pairs, where support and determination was shown across all years. Many pairs achieved beyond level 16, with many more achieving past level 18. Although I could mention many, Caitlin Knight was the last girl in the test (Year 8) with Lucy McCorkindale (Year 7) a close second. The Year 7 paring of Rohan Elliott and Ethan James were also outstanding. Kyle Main and Ross Godwin came close to level 21. Even with all the Netball Girls absent due to their Carnival, over 52 students still attended.

JUNIOR BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM SELECTION The Junior Boys Football practice, trials and selections were conducted last week. Junior fixtures can be found at the School’s Sports Webpage and commence on Thursday 15th May. Further information can also be found at http://www.westperthfc.com.au/district-news/schools
Year 7 students continue training this week in readiness for the ACC Carnival in Term 3. Some Year 7 students have been named as possible substitutes to the Team; however, may not play.
Junior Boys Football Team vs. Clarkson SHS (Thursday 15th May)
It is unfortunate; however, we have reluctantly withdrawn from the ACC Year 10 School Boys Cup due to examination clashes with both Year 10 students and potential Year 9 players who may have also played.
