A Simplified Method

The Online Catalog (WebPAC)

• The Online Catalogue is the gateway to library resources, such as books, journals and electronic materials.

Getting Started

• From University of Sharjah Homepage

• Go to

•“myuos portal”

•“Find a Book” Category

•Select “Online Catalog”

Search CategoriesVarious search categories are available. You can

use any of the followingKeyword Search : The keyword search will

search anywhere in the bibliographic record, not next to each other

Title Search : Search in the title fieldAuthor Search : Search for the author. Put the

last name first Subject Search : The Subject search will retrieve

a list of subject headings Classmark Search : The Classmark search will

retrieve all the books available on particular subject.

Keyword Search

• Type the term in the Keyword Field

• Use single word e.g. (diabetes)

• To search for more than one term, use the Boolean Operator (AND)

Example (diabetes and care)

• Drop the Stop Words ( on, for, of, by, …etc.) when searching

• Click on “Go” Button to see the results .

Primary Results PageThe Results List shows page-by-page the items

retrieved that matched your search. • The Book’s Title, Author’s Name and

Classmark for each document, will be displayed• Note the icon on the right side opposite to each

record which indicate type of item• Go through the titles, and note down the

Classmarks for the appropriate ones• Books will be found on shelves under Classmark

numbers, printed on white label and pasted on their spines.

• To find more information on any of the listed titles, click on the Required Title in the Results List, a Detailed Page for the selected document will be displayed.

Subject Search

• You can search by Subject to :

• Locate all available title related to specific subject.

• Find a broad search results.

• Retrieve a list of subject headings.

Classmark Search

• You can search by Classmark, to retrieve titles on a specific subject (under a particular classmark).

• To identify the Alphabets that represent a required subject, refer to the National Library of Medicine Classification Outline (NLM)
